Recently, the girls have noticed something strange about their powers — not only are they stronger then ever before, but they've also gotten new secondary powers; Hay Lin can disappear, Cornelia moves things with her mind, Taranee can telepathically communicate with her fellow Guardians, Irma has mind control powers, and Will can't stop machines from talking to her.
But more importantly, Elyon's friends back on Earth are finally doing something about her mysterious disappearance several months ago, getting the police to enquire about her whereabouts, and asking questions W.I.T.C.H. can't really answer — and Sandpit and Miranda of the Knights of Vengeance are happy to take the opportunity to destroy the Guardian's reputations on Earth.
The episode contains the following tropes:
- Blatant Lies: The girls can't exactly say that Elyon is now ruling a magical kingdom in a different dimension, which becomes a problem when the police interrogate them about her whereabouts and why they never mentioned that their friend was gone. The best they can do is say she took a sudden, long vacation in some remote part of the world where she can't be reached. They can't agree on where she went and they all insist they heard it from someone else in their circle of friends, only making it more suspicious. Miranda uses this to help make it sound like the girls abducted Elyon, or worse.
- Blessed with Suck: Will kinda hates her new technopathic abilities, as any electronic device she touches gains a voice and personality that she can't control, and only she and her fellow Guardians can hear them. She ends up going to the principal's office for getting into a seemingly one-sided argument with her calculator. Even the usually chipper Hay Lin quickly gets sick of Will's appliances constantly chattering.Hay Lin: Cool! It's like having a hundred new friends! (not even a minute later) ...Wow, it gets old so quickly. Who knew? So, unplugging not an option?
- The Chains of Commanding: Elyon, as the new de facto ruler of Meridian, quickly realizes that having actual responsibilities like meditating land disputes and planning out sewage systems is much less fun then when she was just a princess and could attend fancy balls all she wanted. Part of the reason she and her family return to Earth to finish the school year was to get a break from all that.Elyon: Ruling so does not rule.
- Continuity Nod: The last episode had Cornelia's powers go wild. This episode explains why — all the Guardian's powers are much stronger since the Veil was lifted, and therefore much harder to control.
- Deconstruction:
- Pretty much the whole point of the episode is showing the realistic consequences of Elyon and her adoptive parents leaving Earth for Meridian midway in season one, which previous episodes had just glossed over. One of her old friends, Alchemy, finally gets the principle to call the police to investigate, while pointing out how weird it is that nobody before now seemed to notice or care that a girl and her family vanished without a trace.
- Likewise, Irma's police officer dad demands to know why she never mentioned that no one's seen one of her best friends for months. Irma can only stutter out an excuse.
- Frame-Up: The Knights of Vengeance do their best to make it look like Will and her friends did something to the missing Elyon. Miranda approaches the detectives in charge of the case and says they all secretly hated Elyon and she last saw them taking her to her basement for a "surprise." When the detectives investigate, they find a false wall (actually Sandpit in disguise) and leave to get equipment to tear it down and further interrogate the girls — at which point Sandpit drops the disguise and Miranda plants Will's calculator, making it look for all the world like Will desperately covered her tracks.
- Human Disguise: Miranda uses her human form to infiltrate the girl's school, passing herself off as a student named "Melinda." Since W.I.T.C.H. never saw her human form before, and Elyon's not there to recognize her, this works for a time.
- Technopath: Will's new ability to bring machines to life. While she finds it annoying at first, it proves useful when her calculator tells her how Miranda and Sandpit have been framing them for Elyon's disappearance.
