She'd been stacking a weird mix of diuretics and synthetic hormones. She had herself down to 6% body fat. Her heart just couldn't take it. Bone structure anomalies, kidney damage, nose bleeds. [...] This gives them a few more years in a sport where 16 is over the hill.
Assistant Attorney Culliton

When a high school girl gymnast dies of steroid abuse, the Jump Street team goes undercover at her high school to find the sellers of these drugs. Judy tutors Jody, another gymnastics girl who knew the girl who died and who needs tutoring to keep her grades up. And Penhall goes undercover as a jock to get close to Mike Ogletree, a football player who's also suspected of using the drugs and knowing the source.

Meanwhile, Hanson wants to become a Big Brother: a volunteer who spends time as a male role model with a boy who doesn't have a father (Hanson lost his own father when still young). But when he asks Penhall for a letter of recommendation, Penhall says Hanson shouldn't do this and ends up writing a negative letter, which causes a rift between Hanson and Penhall. On the positive side, through his Big Brother application procedure Hanson meets his new girlfriend, Amy.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Career-Ending Injury: The end credits reveal that it was her ankle injury, not her drug abuse, which ultimately ended Jody's career.
  • Nerd Glasses: Judy has to go undercover as a brainy straight-A student who has to tutor Jody; she wears big glasses in this episode, despite otherwise in the series never wearing glasses.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: Jody lives for her sport. Her dedication to it makes her grades drop. She goes on training despite being in pain from an ankle injury. She even ends up damaging her body by taking drugs, in hopes of qualifying for the Olympics.
  • Rewind, Replay, Repeat: Jody has video tapes of her former gymnastics performances, and shows parts of them (her best and worst performances) over and over again to Judy, each time rewinding the tape and playing it again.
  • Shirtless Scene: Well-trained football star Mike shows up shirtless for a class. In Universe, his class mates whistle at him and high-five him to show their approval of the sight of Mike's naked torso.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: At one point, Penhall has to take a steroid pill to maintain his cover; the next scene shows him sticking his fingers down his throat, and bending forward out of shot.
