Karen stops by and announces that she's going to be staying in a house with a roommate, instead of the dorms, as it actually saves money. When she says the reason it's so cheap is because it needs repairs, Jack wants to come down to see it, and help fix it up, and Kevin is obligated to come as well. The house turns out to be quite roomy, but in definate need of some repairs. Jack is excited to get started, but his attitude immediately changes when he learns that Karen's roommate is actually her boyfriend, Michael.

- Downer Ending: Jack and Karen have a falling out and do not come to terms until next season.
- Granola Girl: Karen's lunch consists of stir-fried vegetables, sauteed bead curd, and Jimaca salad. Even Michael, who's sort of a hippie himself, can't stand it.

- Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: Jack' attitude, while initially pleased about Karen saving on Rent vs living in the college dorms, immediately changes when he learns about Michael.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Jack makes it clear that he finds Karen's living situation unacceptable, and she refuses to honor his wishes, he storms off, dismissing his daughter's values.
- Suddenly Shouting: Karen insists to her steaming father that times are changing, he suddenly roars back "I HAVEN'T CHANGED!!!"
