Recap / The Unit S 01 E03200th Hour

Go To

In this episode of The Unit, Jonas is sent on a solo mission to rescue some kidnapped missionaries, leaving Mac in charge of the squad. While they are going through mock-up CQB drills of their intended objective, a fratricide incident occurs. Meanwhile, the wives prepare for the visit of a U.S. Senator on the important Budget Appropriations Committee.

Tropes positively identified are

  • Collateral Damage: Bob shoots at a pop up target in a CQB drill, but ends up winging Mac, who’d drifted away from his assigned position.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Jonas’s cover identity for the rescue op is that of “Dr. Julius Ostrander” at the nearby hospital. The separatists use their inside man at the hospital to verify the identity. He reports back that a Dutch doctor named Ostrander does work there. They realize that the man they talked to was black.
    • Bob, who’s been kicking himself about accidentally winging Mac at the CQB drill, runs through the steps he executed, at the kill house, only slower. This causes him to remember that Mac had slightly drifted right from his assigned position - thereby literally walking into Bob’s bullet.
  • Not His Blood: Tiffy walks into Kim’s house, wearing a blood soaked blouse. Everybody goes to her, deeply concerned, thinking that Mac roughed her up really bad. She assures them it is actually Mac’s blood, from the training accident.
  • Only a Flesh Wound: Played straight, since Bob’s bullet only only grazed Mac’s arm.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Jonas grumbles to his CIA contact about how these spoiled kids get a rescue only because of who their daddies knew, while actual refugees of the conflict in East Timor have no place to go.
  • Title Drop: Grey mentions that the infamous “200th hour” is the amount of time that usually passes before a newbie to the Unit makes his first mistake.
  • Too Dumb to Live: One of the rescued missionaries, sneaks out of the safe house Jonas has stashed all of them at, and goes right back into the hostile zone he was just rescued from. Why? Because “the Lord’s work must still be done there!” He is promptly recaptured.
  • You Don't Want to Catch This: Jonas fills the bed of his tempo truck (a three wheeled cargo version of an auto rickshaw or tuk-tuk) with empty syringes and supposedly bloody linens. When the separatists search his vehicle, he sternly warns them to not touch any syringe, as they were used to treat AIDS patients. In actuality, he was hiding the kids he was sent to rescue, under all those needles.
