Return to Recap: The Smurfs (1981).
Gargamel is visited by Miss Esmeralda Fortune, a Phony Psychic, who foretells that he'll catch all the Smurfs he wants if he puts a bag of gold into the hollow of a spotted oak. When Gargamel leaves a bag of rocks painted gold, she vows her revenge.
This episode provides examples of:
- Dreaming of Things to Come: Dreamy mentions dreaming of things like "smurfmobiles, smurfovision, and smurfominiums" at the start of the episode, which over time lead to a few Continuity Nods in "The Smurfbox Derby" (and by extension, "Smurfs on Wheels"), "Handy's Window Vision", and "Skyscraper Smurfs".
- On Second Thought: When Miss Fortune first knocks on Gargamel's door...Gargamel: Now, who can that be? Go away!
Miss Fortune: If you don't let me in, you'll regret it for the rest of your miserable life!
Gargamel: [gulps] Well... as long as you put it that way, I suppose... [Opens the door.] - Phony Psychic: Miss Fortune and her sidekick, Cohort, use such things as Tarot cards and a fake Crystal Ball to dupe their victims. When Gargamel demands proof of her powers, she offers to read the bumps on his head.Miss Fortune: Hmm... it seems a rainstorm is headed this way.
[Gargamel sticks his head out the window, staring at the clear blue sky.]
Gargamel: A rainstorm? Ha! Do you take me for a fool? There's not a cloud in the sky.
Miss Fortune: Nevertheless, a rainstorm is headed this way!
[The scene changes to show Cohort standing on Gargamel's roof and holding a bucket of water.]
Gargamel: Bah! It'll be weeks before we get any...
[Cohort dumps the water on Gargamel's head.]
Gargamel: [sputters] ...rain. - Stewed Alive: This nearly happens to Dreamy and Smurfette when Gargamel catches them and puts them into a pot of soup, along with some snails and dumplings. The other Smurfs rescue them before Gargamel can light the fire, and the snails manage to crawl out as well.Gargamel: One snail, two snail, three snail, four.
Two little Smurfs, and soon I'll have more!
