Nolan manages to disable his attacker and throw him through a window before he's killed. Chen panics, though, because if she's found at Nolan's place then their lies about their relationship will be exposed. Nolan convinces her to leave and lies repeatedly to Commander West and Internal Affairs about being alone that night.
Bradford, Chen, Wets, Lopez, Bishop, Wolf, and Vestri go to an apartment complex to find Vestri the drug dealer who shot Isabel in the head. They, instead, find Vestri's pregnant girlfriend and soon find themselves in a massive shoot out with his gang. Chen helps deliver the baby during the chaos. Eventually, SWAT, Nolan, and Commander West arrive to relieve them.
Nolan has an attack of conscience and considers telling the truth before Chen shuts him down. He is then cleared for duty.
- Artistic License – Law: There's no way Bradford would be allowed to investigate Isabel's attempted murder.
- Blatant Lies: Nolan repeatedly lies about being alone during his assault.
- Born in an Elevator: Vestri's child is born during the middle of a shoot out with the police.
- Honor Before Reason: Nolan wants to come clean about his lies to IA even though it would destroy his and Chen's careers.
- Karma Houdini: Nolan and Chen get away with lying about their relationship and whereabouts during the attack.
- Naïve Newcomer: Nolan believes everything will work out if he tells the truth to Internal Affairs. Chen believes otherwise.
- Papa Wolf: Vestri is a Subverted example because his actions to protect his child put it in much greater danger than if he'd just let them go.
- Spotting the Thread: Commander West detects that Nolan is lying but doesn't really see enough reason to go after him given his exemplary behavior during the rescue mission.
- Wretched Hive: The apartment complex is more or less owned by Vestri who begins a massive gun battle with the LAPD over his child.
