An alien invasion threatens to destroy Earth within 24 hours... unless they are treated to a nice dinner. Taking the compromise, the Girls go shopping at the supermarket for ingredients, where they split up in three separate misadventures: Buttercup is on the search for jelly, noir detective style; Bubbles is conflicted by which box of cereal should she pick; and Blossom deals with a customer who has one item more at a 115 items or less express checkout line in a dark times setting.
Tropes
- Death Seeker: When Bubbles hits the mascots with milk and they start to disintegrate, most of them react in horror. But the Lucky Charms expy's final words?: "Oh sweet relief".
- Deliberately Monochrome: Buttercup's segments are done in this style to resemble the film noir setting.
- Expy: Pretty much all the food mascots Bubbles encounters including a Tony Tiger one, a Toucan Sam, Lucky Charms, and Count Chocula among others.
- Get Out!: The manager of the store tells the girls this once he gets their attention.
- Imagine Spot: The whole episode is pretty much one once the girls set about their tasks. Buttercup think she's in a film noir setting while looking for the jelly, Bubbles in a fantasy world filled with cereal mascots who try to convince her to pick one of them and Blossom in a medieval setting where she's a knight battling a "witch" (really a customer with more than one item over her limit) keeping the people of the kingdom from crossing a bridge.
- Longing for Fictionland: Since the whole quest was all in the girls heads, in reality they were causing store damage to property and, in Blossom's case, hurting one of the customers. The manager eventually snaps them out of it, but likewise kicks them out of the store without allowing them to purchase their products.
- "Shaggy Dog" Story: Not only did the Girls' quest to get the dinner ingredients end up All for Nothing after being kicked out of the supermarket for causing trouble, it turns out to be completely unnecessary when their improvised meal pleases the alien leader enough to cease their plan to destroy Earth.Buttercup: (confused) Uh... did we just get away with that?
Blossom: (equally confused) Yup.
