Recap / The Odd Couple 1970 S 3 E 22 Take My Furniture Please

Go To

While Oscar is gone, Felix repaints the apartment and subsequently begs Oscar to let him redecorate it. Although Oscar agrees on the condition that Felix let him work on his new book in peace, he quickly despises the quirky style his roommate chooses for the furniture and counterattacks with his own redecorating campaign.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Comically Missing the Point: When Oscar comes home, Felix asks if he notices anything. Oscar tells Miriam (who was there helping paint) that he didn't know she wore glasses but they suit her.
  • Embarrassing First Name: When Oscar asks him about his most embarrassing moment, Bubba Smith answers it was when his parents decided to name him "Bubba." Oscar specifies that he meant on the field.
  • Hidden Depths: Bubba Smith, a football player, discusses interior decorating with Felix.
  • The Last Straw: Felix nearly moves out when Oscar redoes the apartment in a way he considers tacky.
  • Loophole Abuse: Two women barge into the apartment the night Felix advertises the furniture. When Felix protests that the sale will take place tomorrow, they point out that past 12 at night does technically count as tomorrow.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title refers to Henny Youngman's line, "take my wife, please."
  • Shout-Out:
    • When he first sits in one of the "hand" chairs Felix chose, Oscar says he feels like an M&M.
    • When Myrna tests out the hand chairs, she says she feels like an All-State customer, referencing their ad slogan, "you're in good hands with All-State."
