Fran and then Max oversees Grace's School Play.

  • Former Child Star: Alluded to:
Max: Oh, these amateurs. Where are all the great child actors when you need them?
    Fran: Robbing 7-Elevens.
  • Kicked Upstairs: Fran is promoted to producer so that Maxwell can take over the production:
Fran: I wasn't replaced, I was promoted to producer.
    Niles: Sucker.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: An unconventional variation:
Max: This is Miss Emma Trusdale, Lexington's headmistress.
Fran: Oh, head mistress, huh? Honey, you're living in a dream world. No matter what they say, they never leave their wives.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Maxwell gives Mother Goose the Broadway treatment.
  • Self-Deprecation: The episode makes a number of jabs at show business:
Fran: Well, what do I care about that little girl? Am I her nanny?
Max: No, you're the director, and you're supposed to cast actors according to talent, not on who they know.
Fran: What show business are you working in?
  • Shout-Out: When Gracie receives the leading role, she gushes, "They like me! They really like me!" (Which is actually a Beam Me Up, Scotty!, but never mind.)
