Recap / The Mask S 1 E 13 All Hallow's Eve

Go To

In this Halloween Episode, Skillit escapes from reform school determined to get revenge on the Mask for making him do homework and reanimates the corpses of three of the world's most evil figures who were in possession of The Mask before Stanley found it (Atilla the Hun, Billie the Kid and Merlin the magician) and having them wreak havoc on Edge City during its annual costume party.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Villainy: The monster Nilrem is all but outright stated to actually be Merlin the wizard, but since he’s one of Skillit's old "playmates", this heavily implies that this version didn’t possess the Heroic Willpower that Stanley does.
  • Butt-Monkey: As usual, The Mask decides to scare Mrs Peenman by dressing up as the Grim Reaper and putting her in a clown costume.
  • Hero's Evil Predecessor: The two previous hosts of the mask of Loki turn out to be Atilla the Hun and Billie the Kid who are also two of the infamous people in history.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The Mask manages to defeat Skillit by using his own name backwards which it works.
  • The Jekyll Is a Jerk: the Mask was in possession of such infamous personalities like Atilla, Blackbeard, Genghis Khan, Billie the Kid and Merlin (who turned himself into the monster Nilrem).
  • Sdrawkcab Name: One of the past wearers of the Mask is a monster known as Nilrem. Skillit explains that he was once a medieval wizard who "had a little accident with a spell", implying that this is actually Merlin.
    • Stanley manages to trick Skillit into telling him how to send the mask's previous wearers back to the Shadowland; by saying "Ksam", which is "Mask" backwards.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: The Mask as always changes his appearance which he does by turning into the Grim Reaper to scare his landlady then a stage magician. Later on he turns into Dracula, a exterminator, a cowboy with a mustache, a talk show host when he gets the previous hosts into spelling his name backwards, a alpinist, a superhero in a red suit and frogman.
