Recap / The Interns S 7 E 12

Go To

Bykov accuses Phil of purposefully avoiding Lobanov because of Olga (who does the same), which starts to become ridiculous. Of course, Bykov forces them to work together, so they may deal with this conflict for once. They somehow manages to do their work... without ever closely interaction with each other. But this is not what Bykov wanted! So he makes their duet permanent. They quickly snaps and asks Bykov to separate them... each stating the other one's well-being as the reason. So, Bykov (separately, without warning them beforehand) forces them to work at the morgue, where they have no chance to avoid each other at all. To further ensure this, Bykov locks them there with some alcohol, so they would mend their friendship. It works.

Varya gets entrusted with delivering a package to one of the patients; but then she accidentally drops it when she gets scared by Bykov, revealing that the package contains... a sex toy. And now everyone is convinced that it belongs to her. When pressed too hard, she just throws it away... and gets forced to buy a new one, as it's a gift and doesn't belong to her. The situation becomes even more awkward when Varya has to order it by using the computer in on-call room, and gets busted mid-process.

Gleb gets enraged by being the only one in the Therapy to not receive the bonus money because he's simply disliked by Bykov... whom Kisegach thoroughly supports (even Lobanov managed to receive one, just because he got no complaints within a whole month). Unknowingly to Gleb, Bykov specifically warned Kisegach to not pay him anything, and be vary that he may try and exploit the fact that he is her son; she must refuse, because otherwise it would ruin Bykov's attempts to educate Gleb properly. When he realises that nice methods wouldn't work, Gleb announces the hunger strike... right here, in Kisegach's office; this heavily interferes with his mother's work. He finally manages to achieve his goals after spending two full days here, but gets almost driven insane by this.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch: What initially looks like dead Phil lying in his own blood... turns out to be drunk Phil lying in tomato juice.
  • Blackmail: To receive his "deserved" money bonus, Gleb announces the hunger strike, right in Kisegach's office. This heavily interferes with her work — and later presses her conscience. Ultimately, Gleb wins.
  • Gave Up Too Soon: When Kisegach finally snaps and gets ready to provide him with "his" money bonus, Gleb snaps as well and stops his hungry strike to eat the only food he could find while not leaving his mother's office — a package of bread rolls, which he opened with his teeth (he was barely sane at this point). Thankfully for him, Kisegach wouldn't notice it until after giving him the money.
  • Lethally Stupid: Bykov locks Lobanov, Phil and some alcohol in one room. Kupitman points that this is a receipt for disaster, and when they enters, at first it looks like Semyon indeed has killed Phil; fortunately, turns out that Phil is just wasted, and "blood" is merely tomato juice.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Varya's patient's friend asks Varya to deliver a gift to said patient, not revealing what's inside the bag. The situation gets awkward when the nature of the gift gets revealed — and Varya gets mistaken for its owner.
    • Varya accidentally drops a bag, revealing that it contains a sex toy. It's not hers, it's a package for one patient from that patient's friend, and Varya agreed to deliver it without knowing what's inside, but no one believes her. She tries to deliver the toy to its owner, but since it was a surprise gift, the patient is unaware about it and refuses, making Varya look even sillier since she tries to insist several times.
    • To stop everyone from mocking her, Varya throws the sex toy away... and gets forced to order a replacement, using a computer in the on-call room. She then gets busted during delivery.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Gleb manages to press Kisegach into giving him that money bonus, but it costs him two hellish days without food, and he wastes all those money (and some more) on the food to celebrate. He gets called a fool for that, but for Gleb, it was "a matter of principle".
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Phil and Lobanov can't stand each other (because of the whole story with Olga), and now trying to avoid each other as much as possible. Naturally, Bykov notices and forces them to work together (to snap them out of it). They manages to find a way to avoid each other anyway, so he forces them to work at the morgue, where it would be impossible, and locks them there with some alcohol. Despite Kupitman calling Bykov a complete idiot for doing this (this may result in drunk Lobanov killing Phil), Bykov's plan actually works: they gets wasted, but on the next day, becomes friends again.
