Recap / The Interns S 4 E 15

Go To

Lyuba suggests that Varya must be more aggressive with Gleb, otherwise he would never notice her. Or, at least, get him drunk, as it was how they initially hook up. After she tries (and fails) with wine, Lyuba suggests to ask Kupitman for help, who offers her a bottle of cognac. When this fails, too, Lyuba offers to just organise a party and invite Gleb: he wouldn't refuse this event. Gleb, after seeing how overly enthusiastic Varya is about alcohol, is afraid that she may become an alcoholic, and asks Kupitman for help. Together, they decides to give her and lecture about dangers of alcohol — which Kupitman does in rather horrifying way. After that, of course, any romantics was out of question.

Bykov publicly humiliates Lobanov, and then (accidentally) hits him in the eye with a door knob. Lobanov decides to just lie to Kisegach that Bykov beat him. Kisegach gives Bykov an ultimatum: if he ever touches any intern again, she would fire him. Lobanov tries to exploit this and force Bykov to apologise for morning humiliation, but instead of doing this, Bykov humiliates him even further. Then Lobanov tries to hit him with the door... only to hit Kisegach instead, and make her realise that Lobanov has lied to her. Soon afterwards, Kisegach finally meets her anonymous suitor in person, who introduces himself as Anton Yaroslavsky.

Phil must work with Lyuba today. Gleb exploits Phil's unfamiliarity with zelyonka, and tells him that it is, in fact, extremely expensive, and very, very hard to obtain (at least legally). Fortunately, Lyuba explains everything before it comes too far. Now Phil wants revenge. Comes evening, and Phil remembers about that baseball ball Bykov demonstrated to him in the morning (that one which he removed from some guy's ass), and "gifts" it to Gleb, lying that it is a rare trophy, and that it is good omen to kiss it; the plan works perfectly.

This episode provides examples of:

  • All Jews Are Cheapskates: Kupitman agrees to provide Varya with cognac... but chooses the most cheap one, which he was intended to throw away because he has no use for it. Of course, he doesn't tell her this.
  • Ass Shove: That baseball ball Bykov brings to on-call room? Three guesses where he find it, and how it was ended there in the first place. Hint: Bykov still wears protective gloves.
  • Brick Joke: At the beginning of the episode, Bykov demonstrates to Phil a baseball ball he removed from some guy's ass. Later Phil gifts that same ball to Gleb, as revenge for his [[{{Troll}] prank]]. This leads to... interesting moments when Bykov sees Gleb with this ball, and Gleb kisses it.
  • Chekhov's Gun: That baseball ball Bykov demonstrated to Phil at the beginning of the episode? Phil later uses it for revenge on Gleb.
  • Culture Clash: Phil is unaware about "Brilliant green", also known as "zelyonka", commonly used as a cheap antiseptic in Russia. Gleb exploits this, and tells him that it was literally made from brilliants... or, rather, from diamonds, which means that it is extremely expensive. He also lies to him about how to actually use it (you should be very careful and only use the minimal dosage of it). Hilarity ensues.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Phil is tired of Gleb's jokes, and now wants revenge. His plan? Well, there's one particular baseball ball with ugly backstory...
  • Eye Scream:
    • Bykov accidentally hits Lobanov in the eye with a door knob, barely avoiding injuring him. Lobanov (who was publicly humiliated just not long ago) decides to lie to Kisegach that Bykov beat him. She gives Bykov an ultimatum: if he ever touches any intern again, she would fire him. She also forces Bykov to "apologise" for this.
    • After attempt to make Bykov publicly apologise fails (as he was humiliated publicly, the apologise should be public, too), Lobanov tries to hit Bykov's eye with a doorknob, just like Bykov hit him... only to hit Kisegach instead.
  • Is This Thing Still On?: After Bykov refuses to publicly apologise before Lobanov, and humiliates him even further, Semyon, not realising that intercom is still on, calls him "bitch". Everyone in the Therapy can hear this; and due to stunning silence, it even echoes.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Varya's attempts to provoke Gleb into dating her by offering him booze results in him mistaking her for alcoholic, so he asks Kupitman for help.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Either Bykov (publicly) apologises to Lobanov for humiliating him this morning, or Lobanov would injure himself and tell Kisegach that he was harmed by him, which would lead to Bykov being fired. Instead of apologising, Bykov humiliates him even further, forcing Lobanov to change his plan.
  • Troll:
    • Gleb lies to Phil about real value of zelyonka, telling him that it is "very rare, extremely expensive and almost impossible to acquire legally".
    • Phil, after learning that he was pranked by Gleb, gifts him a baseball ball with some... interesting origin, creates a fake backstory for it, and tells that it is a good omen to kiss it (which Gleb does three times). Bykov (who was the one who brought this ball to Phil in the first place) decides to not interfere, and instead enjoy the show.
  • Screw Your Ultimatum!: Rather than do as Lobanov demands and publicly apologise, Bykov tells over intercom that Lobanov is even dumber than what he said this morning. Bykov never plays along with blackmailers.
