Recap / The Interns S 3 E 19

Go To

Alisa started dating Gleb... and Bykov definitely is not happy with this. Kisegach, worrying about him possibly exploding, offers him to treat his stress with sex... but it quickly becomes apparent that he needs more than one "session" to deal with this. Much more.

Lobanov must temporarily replace Kupitman. His only task is to wait for important call and write everything down; and no matter what happens, do not try and prescribe anything to Kupitman's patients. After Lobanov manages to do everything right, he asks Kupitman to become his intern instead of Bykov's. Lobanov quickly regrets this when he gets forced to work with the whole battalion of soldiers, and by the end of the day he outright screams on Kupitman that he wants to stay with Bykov.

To explain why he doesn't want Alisa to become a doctor, Bykov assigns Varya to spend a day near Alisa, introducing her to the hospital. Alisa decides to use this to learn more about Gleb... only for Varya to avoid her questions for any work-related excuse she can find (despite Alisa always resolving them almost immediately).

This episode provides examples of:

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Lobanov wants to become Kupitman's intern, hoping that this would mean almost no work, and lots of expensive cognac. Kupitman gives him a chance to work for him... which quickly squicks Lobanov into begging to let him leave Venereology when he starts dealing with his patients. By the end of the day, Lobanov just can't speak with Kupitman without shouting on him.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Alisa continues dating Gleb, which enrages Bykov to no end. Fortunately, Kisegach offers him help to deal with it. Unfortunately, Bykov's stress is so strong, he needs much more than just one "session".
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: Varya always finds some work-related excuses to avoid replying to Alisa's questions about Gleb. Despite Alisa always resolving them almost immediately. The further it goes, the more implausible it becomes.
  • Intimate Psychotherapy: Kisegach thinks that sex can help Bykov with his stress, caused by Gleb dating Alisa. Unfortunately, Bykov becomes more and more stressful every time he sees them together, requiring additional "therapy sessions". Eventually, she decides to just hide from Bykov, and when this fails, outright tells him that he needs to just accept them.
  • Out of Focus: While Gleb dating Alisa is central to the plot, Gleb himself receives only bare minimum of attention in both subplots related to it; one is about Bykov dealing with stress caused by his daughter's new affair, and another is about Alisa trying to find some info about Gleb from Varya.
  • Red Herring: After Kupitman provided Lobanov with very specific instructions, it's easy to assume that Semyon is going to screw those up (like he always did in the past). He doesn't. The actual plot is about him trying to become Kupitman's intern, only to learn the hard way that there's not just fun at that.
