Will's parents have just divorced and he has unwillingly had to move area and change schools. He was previously at a private school, so has inherited some snobbish tendencies.

- Berserk Button: Will being consistently refused alcohol in the first episode leads him to go off on a massive rant in the middle of a crowded pub that alienates him from the entire sixth form. On his first day."His mum still buys his trousers!!!"
- Establishing Character Moment:
- We see Will's overall social status and mistreatment by everyone from teachers to classmates. But his very first interaction on the show also features him saying the wrong thing to Mr. Gilbert, then later insulting Gilbert in front of the entire class, showcasing his socially awkward qualities.
- Simon's major one comes with the introduction of Carli; we see how nervous he is around her to the point where even her sniffing him gives him a Raging Stiffie.
- Jay is introduced bragging to Simon and Neil about his sexual conquests in a manner that it makes it clear that he's talking out of his arse.
- Neil blithley believes Jay's lies about his sexual prowess as opposed to Simon's scepticism, establishing his gullibility and simple-mindedness.
- Friendship Moment:
- Invoked. After Jay humiliates Simon for having a boner, Will takes the opportunity to offer him a seat during their next class as a show of friendliness in spite of his humilation.
- Although Will alienates most of his classmates, he and Simon manage to bond over a similar sense of humor while Simon willingly stays behind to makes sure Will isn't bullied.
- I Have Boobs, You Must Obey!: The boys are discussing whether or not they'll get served at the pub. Simon doesn't want to look like a loser in front of Carli if he doesn't get served, which leads to this:Will: She might not get served.Simon: Girls always get served. As soon as they get tits they get served.
- Rage Breaking Point: After going to the wrong pub and being denied alcohol, the lads find the right place, only for Will to be denied again, prompting him to go into a rant about how every single one of the clientele is underage.
- Raging Stiffie: Simon gets one when Carli leans over in front of him and he gets a look at her cleavage. Jay calls him out on it and tells everybody. This earns him the nickname "Boner" for the rest of the series until Neil attempts to kiss Miss Timms and then gets one himself.
- Right Behind Me: Will enters his first class just after an unpleasant encounter with Mr. Gilbert. He goes on a long and increasingly impassioned mocking rant about Gilbert, but everyone else just looks uneasy. After a while, Will says "He's behind me, isn't he", and sure enough Gilbert has entered the classroom.
