Recap / The Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy S 4 E 3 Test Of Time A Kick In The Asgard

Go To

When Billy ends up wasting too much time to finish a history report, Grim gives him a remote control that can control and alter time. Unfortunately, things go south when Mandy takes the remote so she can finish her own history report.

"Test of Time" contains examples of:

  • All for Nothing: Billy and Mandy's trip to the future reveals that Billy spent the next 42 years writing his history report, only for Billy to flush it down the toilet.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Mandy and Future Billy end up trapped in an alternate timeline where all points of history collide, while Billy is trapped in prehistoric time with the remote broken. However, he falls in love with a cavegirl, becoming a part of human evolution. Fast forward into the present, every person is dumb like he is and shares his dot eyes and characteristic big nose, including Mandy and Irwin.
  • Déjà Vu: Billy uses the remote control to rewind Mandy in time several times before the latter proclaims this trope.

When Billy zaps Grim with static electricity, he accidentally gets sent to Asgard.

"A Kick in the Asgard" contains examples of:

  • Berserk Button: Do not mess with Harold's pompadour. That's where his brain is.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Billy is destructive enough to take on Thor, and dethrone Odin, both of whom are gods.
  • Eye Scream: In this show's interpretation of Norse Myth, Odin's missing eye comes from Loki being reckless while playing with his slingshot. Not quite as epic, but surprisingly on-brand for the god of Mischief.
  • Hijacked by Jesus: Notably averted. Loki is portrayed as an obnoxious but well-meaning prankster, rather than the Satan-allegory that's become more prevalent in later portrayals.
  • I Choose to Stay: Billy finds himself enjoying life in Asgard, having all the root beer he can drink, the food he can eat, and fighting and brawling with the vikings to his heart's content until finally becoming king of Asgard himself.
  • Norse Mythology: The entire premise of the episode.
  • Shout-Out: The end credits of the episode feature Billy seated on a throne, with narration from Mako explaining the exploits he would make as King of Asgard. Sound familiar?
