"Job Hunting" is an episode in the first season of The Golden Girls.
After the counseling center where Rose works closes, Rose struggles to find new employment while the others are annoyed with the endless calls Rose gets from people seeking Rose's counseling help. Meanwhile, Blanche goes out with one of the Rose's former counseling clients.
Tropes:
- Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: Dorothy's account about the differences of Barry in real life vs. her idealized fantasy regarding him consists of him having thinner hair, a little more weight, and, in sharp contrast to her fantasy of him, being gay. The last part ensures that she and Barry will never become a couple.
- Incompatible Orientation: Dorothy's old flame turns out to be a gay man, as she finds out late in the episode. Dorothy takes it in stride, remarking that if she can't have him then at least no other woman can either.
- "Shaggy Dog" Story:
- Dorothy looks forward to meeting with an old flame of hers, only to find out late in the episode that said old flame turns out to be gay.
- Blanche's romantic involvement with a former counseling client of Rose's ends up doomed after Rose tells Blanche, not knowing Blanche has already been seeing him, that the former client in question has a preference for fat women.
- Speed Sex: According to Dorothy, her sex with Stan that got her knocked up took only three seconds.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Romantic variation. Blanche asks Rose about a former client of hers, whom, unbeknownst to Rose, Blanche has been seeing throughout the episode, in order to make sure that Rose isn't romantically involved with him as well. Rose says "no" before giving the reason that such a relationship would never happen: Said client "has a thing about dating only fat women". Blanche's ego about her own body and her look of displeasure upon this information, combined with the lack of any mention regarding said client in all future episodes, heavily imply that she won't be seeing him again.
