A Plot: When Barry and Joanne crash Erica and Geoff's peaceful weekend camping trip, they end up in a competition to see who is the better couple, causing some unexpected shifts in relationships.

B Plot: After learning that Brea thinks Adam has an easy, privileged life, Adam seeks to prove her wrong by getting a job but quickly learns she might be right.

  • Changing Yourself for Love: Erica discovers that Geoff had been giving up a lot of the things he likes just to please her, which makes her feel guilty.
  • Extreme Doormat: Deconstructed with Geoff, who has chosen to subjugate himself for Erica's sake; Erica feels guilty about this, and has to break up (or at least "take a break") with Geoff to let him be himself.
  • Horrible Camping Trip: Barry and Joanne horn in on Erica and Geoff's camping trip just to rub their relationship in their face. Erica thinks they'll just get frustrated of roughing it in the wild and leave; unfortunately, Barry and Joanne turn out to be better campers than Erica and Geoff.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Erica realizes that Geoff is giving up everything he is just to please her, and decides that it's better that they take a break from their relationship so that Geoff can be his own self.
  • Let's Just Be Friends: Erica and Geoff decide to break up after their camping trip, but remain friends nonetheless.
  • Once More, with Clarity: Geoff mentions in passing that he used to play the cello, which Erica was unaware of until that moment. A montage of scenes from previous episodes then shows a cello conspicuously placed to the side, as if it had always been there.
  • Rotoscoping: Adam has made his own version of A Ha's "Take On Me" video. He specifically mentions rotoscoping the animation himself.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Barry and Joanne, despite deciding to spend more time together and even hold hands, insist they're not actually dating. It's not until watching Geoff and Erica fight over Geoff's Extreme Doormat tendencies that Barry accidentally states they're the better couple, which Joanne actually likes the sound of.
  • Slumming It: Adam tries to prove Brea that he's not a spoiled rich kid by taking a job at the ice-cream shop where she works. She calls him out on it because she feels he's just treating it like one of his movies, just another chance to play pretend, whereas she has to work to earn a living.
