A Plot: Barry wants to be a badass fighter pilot straight out of Top Gun, so he enlists in ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) at school. It's against Beverly's wishes, but Murray thinks it will toughen his son up.
B Plot: When Adam hangs out with Pops at the mall, they check out a time share presentation in order to get free movie tickets. Pops actually gets sucked in by all the amenities and buys a condo in Florida, but Adam hates the idea that his best bud will be away from him for months out of the year.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Captain Wallace (played by Marlon Young), who calls Barry worthless and a loser, though it's downplayed due to Barry very clearly being unprepared for actual boot camp.
- Embarrassing Nickname: In The Tag, Barry attempts to convince Captain Wallace to give him a callsign, listing various options such as "Skymonkey" and "Skyshark". However, to Barry's obvious misfortune, Wallace ends up picking one that was spur-of-the-moment filler: "Applesauce".
- Exact Words: When Pops plays against Adam in Ms. Pac-Man to try and regain Adam's respect, Adam's narration states that Pops "played like he never had before"...because Pops had never played before, as evidenced when he immediately loses after assuming he was playing as the ghosts instead of Ms. Pac-Man.
- Operation: Jealousy: In an attempt to show Pops what he'll lose if he moves to Florida, Adam starts spending more time with Murray's dad Pop-Pop, though Pops (and Erica) immediately figure him out.
