Season 3, Episode 5:
Triple Point
The Rocinante's crew try to find Prax's daughter on Io, while Earth and Mars prepare for battle near Callisto.
Tropes:
- Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Nguyen launching the hybrid pods into space.
- Honor Before Reason: Even with widespread support, Souther still takes some time to initiate the mutiny against Nguyen.
- Hope Spot: Double Subverted. Souther has managed to successfully take back control of the Agatha King and starts spreading the word to both fleets about the origins of the war... only to get abruptly shot and killed by Nguyen, who also fires on one of his own ships for disobeying orders. But it looks like things are about to get better, since Lt. Shaffer has just shot Nguyen in the chest... but he's still fine, and he shoots her back immediately and proceeds to launch the protomolecule hybrids.
- Killed Mid-Sentence: As Souther's announcing the illegality of the Earth-Mars war to their respective fleets, Nguyen shoots him in the stomach, killing him.
- The Mutiny: The crew of the UNN Agatha King plan and execute one of these in an attempt to prevent a war between Earth and Mars.
- Oh, Crap!: Holden, Alex, Bobbie and Prax all have this expression once they see the Io facility launch missiles with hybrids to the UN and Mars fleet.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: When given evidence by Ensign Sinopoli that the war was started on false pretenses, Capt. Sandrine Kirino transmits the information to Admiral Souther as requested and tries to avoid hostilities if possible, even over the objections of her XO.
- Surprisingly Sudden Death: Souther is very abruptly shot and killed by Nguyen in the midst of his mutiny. It's so shocking that Nguyen's people are able to get the upper hand on the other mutineers.
