Recap / The Cleaner UKS 1 E 6 The One

Go To

Wicky's latest job proves personal, when he finds out that the owner of the holiday home he's cleaning up is his ex-girlfriend who left him twenty years ago on his thirtieth birthday. Having been besotted with her, catching up proves an awkward experience, especially as, after Wicky discovers a set of anonymous love letters, both receive some home truths about their time together.

Tropes:

  • Afraid of Blood: Maggie, to the point where she can't even look at the mess without feeling sick.
  • An Arm and a Leg: The blood at this crime scene is from a burglar who got his arm shot off by a shotgun-wielding farmer. At one point during the clean-up, Wicky finds a finger.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Wicky, being played by 6'8" Greg Davies, both towers over and significantly outweighs his ex Maggie. The awkwardness of finding a comfortable sex position in this situation is discussed.
  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: Maggie tells Wicky that he's not the father of her son. A photo (which Wicky somehow doesn't see) indicates that the boy is much taller than she let on, indicating that she may have been lying to him.
  • Nostalgia Filter: At play with how Wicky and Maggie remember the former's 30th birthday. Wicky has fond memories of partying with his friends at what seems to have been an outdoor rave, although he was upset that Maggie never showed up. Maggie, though, was there (albeit from a distance) and remembers it as a small group of drunk (and possibly also high) guys running around in a field acting like they were at a rave; seeing how pathetic they were is hinted at as being a reason for why she left him.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: In-universe; although Maggie moved to Manchester twenty years ago, she can and does revert to her native Brummie accent.
