Recap / The Americans S 5 E 6 Crossbreed

Elizabeth tells Gabriel the truth about what Strobert and the others are doing at the wheat factory, which Gabriel is surprised about, and she agrees to get a sample of the wheat so it can be sent back home. Elizabeth also claims Philip is okay with what he had to do, and Gabriel tells her she and Philip have to continue with seeing Strobert and Deirdre. Elizabeth tries to get Strobert to talk more about his work, but he's more interested in teaching her Tai Chi. Gabriel also tells Elizabeth to get files on Dr. Robert Semel, a psychiatrist, whom she sees while in disguise. Also, Gabriel tells Philip the Centre is worried about him, and that Philip's father, instead of being a logger like he always thought, was actually a prison camp guard. Finally, Gabriel tells Elizabeth and Philip he's leaving the country, since he doesn't think they need him anymore, and it's time for him to move on. Before that happens, however, Elizabeth and Philip bring Paige to meet Gabriel.

Stan and Aderholt finally have luck with approaching Russians outside the Rezidentura when they meet up with Sofia Kovalenko (Darya Ekamasova), who works for TASS, the Soviet news agency, in D.C. While she says she can't talk, she at least takes the business card Stan offers her. Meanwhile, Oleg and Rusian arrest a man involved in the corruption of the food industry, and leave him in jail when he refuses to tell them who else is involved. Oleg also burns the tape that "Stan" sent him when no one meets him again.

Elsewhere, Mischa gets back home to the Soviet Union (and Claudia assures Gabriel he'll get his old job back there), Evgheniya is now working as a Russian translator for the State Department, and Henry continues to do well in math.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bribe Backfire: When Oleg and Rusian make their arrest, the man, Dmitri, tries to bribe them with cash and jewelry. It doesn't work.
  • Call-Back: When a Mary Kay saleswoman shows up at the house, while Paige is polite to her, Elizabeth is abrupt, as she can't help thinking of Young-Hee. She later drives by Young-Hee's house, only to find another family is living there.
  • Shout-Out: Peter Gabriel's "Lay Your Hands on Me" plays near the end, when Oleg burns the cassette sent to him by the CIA and Elizabeth and Philip bring Paige to meet Gabriel.
