Recap / The Adventures Of Superman S 1 E 23 Ghost Wolf

Go To

The logging company that supplies the Daily Planet with its paper pulp is losing its employees due to a series of mishaps, along with the firm belief of many of them that they're being haunted by a female werewolf. Perry White sends Lois, Clark and Jimmy to investigate. On the way, Superman narrowly averts a train crash when he sees that the rail bridge has been sabotaged. After that, Lois twice sees the mysterious wolf, but it's gone when the others show up. Their suspicions settle on the company owner, Sam Garvin, but it turns out that a woodcutter with a grudge is behind the attacks.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Artistic License – Physics: At the end, Superman induces rain to put out a forest fire by using a great long wire to conduct lightning ... somewhere. Don't think about it too hard.
  • Faint in Shock: Lois faints the second time the wolf shows up, and doesn't come around until the guys come on the scene.
  • Friend to All Living Things: In addition to rescuing Jimmy and Lois from a forest fire, Superman stops to save a distressed marten.
  • Human-to-Werewolf Footprints: The reverse, actually, as woodcutter Jacques Olivier claims he's seen wolf tracks turn into those of a woman.
  • Limited Wardrobe: An odd example that feels like the result of a time/budget screwup: while Lois and Jimmy change into outdoorsy clothes when they arrive in the woods, Clark keeps wearing the same double-breasted suit and fedora that he always wears.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Let's just say that Olivier makes a less than convincing French Canadian. (The lady "werewolf," when she eventually talks, isn't much better.)
  • Stock Footage: The forest fire is clearly this, except in close-ups.
  • You Killed My Father: Turns out that the "werewolf" is a woman named Babette who believes that Garvin murdered her father to gain his land, and has been using her pet wolf to ruin the company.
