As Scott's second full moon approaches, he gives in to his animal urges and hurts Stiles, but Stiles gets a measure of revenge in locking him up. Meanwhile, Jackson continues to try to get closer to Allison. The Argents learn that Scott somehow knew Derek.

- Armor-Piercing Response: Stiles is ranting at Scott, giving him a "The Reason You Suck" Speech about how shitty of a friend he is to have kissed Lydia, the girl Stiles has been crushing on for most of his life. Scott stops him mid speech with a simple answer.Scott: She kissed me.Stiles: What?Scott: I didn't kiss her. She kissed me. She would've done a lot more too.
- Asshole Victim: The two bullies that picked on Scott are gruesomely killed by the Alpha who is offended by someone picking on his beta.
- Bait-and-Switch:
- Scott is running through the woods, uncontrolled and shifted, when he's violently tackled. The first thought is it's the Alpha or hunters, but it turns out to be Derek who could sense Scott and came to stop him before he did anything bad.
- Stiles is driving around, frantically looking for Scott. He comes upon a crime scene in the woods and is freaking out that Scott may have killed someone. But it turns out to be the mutilated bodies of the men who had harassed them earlier.
- Bullying the Dragon: Two random guys are walking through the woods and decide to randomly pick on Scott and Stiles, not realizing that they've targeted an apex predator.
- Coincidental Broadcast: Scott's alarm clock wakes him with a top of the hour news summary of the previous episode's events.
- Drowning My Sorrows: Scott and Stiles sneak out to the woods to get drunk after Allison dumps Scott. Subverted by the fact that Scott refuses to accept that he's been dumped and can't get drunk because of his enhanced werewolf metabolism.
- Glowing Eyes of Doom: The bully thinks it's funny to pick on two teenagers until one stands up and his eyes start glowing, the first sign that the bullies are in over their heads.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Stiles is furious that Scott kissed Lydia. He considers her "his" despite the fact that she's never shown even the slightest bit of interest in him, not even platonically.
- Power Incontinence: In the aftermath of their break up, thinking about Allison is painful, making her useless as an anchor, making it difficult for Scott to control his powers. It gets so bad, he has a panic attack.
- Wrong Assumption: Based on what they've learned from Allison combined with Stile's odd behavior and his presence at a crime scene, Chris and Kate mistakenly believe he may be the beta wolf they're looking for.
