Recap / TRON Uprising S 1 E 5 Identity

Go To

Beck is in Argon when the Black Guards begin scanning everyone's disk. Not wanting to have his scanned since if it is, the Occupation will know that he's the Renegade, Beck sneaks away with the help of another program named Galt. The two make their way out of Argon by train, but when Beck gets off at the next station, he finds that Galt has taken his disk. Beck goes back to Tron in the lair, and Tron explains that programs who lose their disks will begin to lose their memories, with initial smaller glitches that gradually increase in duration until the Program's identity is lost. The two of them set out to find and retrieve Beck's stolen disk before it's too late.

Tropes

  • Amnesiac Dissonance: When Beck loses his disk and his memories begin to fade, he's temporarily convinced that he's a member of the military. Ultimately, however, he's still a good person and is convinced of such by Tron.
  • Anguished Declaration Of Friendship: Tron hasn't know Beck very long, and he was betrayed badly by people he cared about. We know about Clu, and it's implied that Flynn (and possibly Alan) ended up as a Broken Pedestal situation, but we had no idea about Dyson or Cyrus at this point. But when Beck hesitates, unable to act against Kobol or Tron, Tron breaks the stalemate by pulling a Dramatic Unmask and pleading that Beck is his friend.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Tron give Lux one when she claims that Kobol will never derez her because he loves her.
Tron: Who is it you're trying to convince?
  • Bad Samaritan: Kobol at first seems willing to help Beck get his disk back, claiming he knows a program in trouble when he sees one. It's all an act. Beck is taken in by it, but Tron isn't fooled. Galt also counts, initially helping Beck get away from the Black Guard before stealing his disk.
  • Call-Forward:
    • Mara is seen with an umbrella like the one Gem is seen with in TRON: Legacy.
    • Tron's disguise looks a lot like the Gridsuit he would go on to wear as Rinzler.
  • Cool Helmet: Tron wears one for the majority of the episode. Lux explicitly states while trying to unmask him later that she can't get the helmet off, so evidently Tron has also made some upgrades to it. This leads to..
  • Dramatic Unmask: In-universe for Lux and Kobol. The audience knew the whole time Tron was still alive.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Lux makes one so that Tron and Beck can get away.
  • High-Heel–Face Turn: Lux.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Tron to Beck after the latter's memory loss takes hold in earnest.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Galt gets derezzed by Kobol just as he's about to start explaining where he took Beck's disk. How much the audience should care is up for debate since he was the one who stole Beck's disk to start with, though in fairness when he was caught he did seem willing to tell Beck and Tron what he had done with the disk.
  • Wretched Hive: How Tron describes Purgos.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Lux again.
