Recap / Supernanny USS 1 EP 7

Go To

The seventh episode of the first season of the US version of Supernanny.

Jo visits Whittier, California, where she meets Robert and Evelina Gorbea. Robert and Evelina have three children; Nine-year-old Demetrius, Eight-year-old Meya, and two-and-a-half-year-old Adam. Demetrius and Maya feel neglected because Adam clings to Evelina like a koala bear. Robert makes Evelina do all the housework while he sits in his chair, and Evelina is torn between keeping Adam as her little baby and wanting freedom from his tyrannical ways. Can Jo help Robert and Evelina even out their responsibilities at home, let Adam grow up, and give Demetrius and Meya the attention and peace they both deserve?

This episode provides examples of:

  • A Boy, a Girl, and a Baby Family: Demetrius is the boy, Meya is the Girl, and Adam is the Baby.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Demetrius and Meya certainly see Adam as this due to his bad behavior. Meya calls Adam a Mom Hog, and Demetrius wishes that he, Meya, and their parents could go on a vacation without Adam.
  • Clingy Child: Adam clings onto Evelina's leg, making it hard for her to move. Jo introduces the Off-the-Hip technique to wean Adam off of Evelina.
  • Company Cross References: In this episode, Adam watches A Goofy Movie when he is supposed to be going to bed. ABC, which aired Supernanny in the US, is owned by Disney.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: As cute as Adam is, he is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to screaming.
  • Foolish Husband, Responsible Wife: Robert and Evelina fulfill these respective roles. When Robert gets home from work, he relaxes in his chair, leaving Evelina to handle doing chores and tending to her three children all on her own. When Jo tries to get Robert more involved in housework by setting up a routine, Robert puts white tape over it to get out of his responsibilities. When Robert does finally take on his new responsibilities, Evelina finds it hard to relax.
  • Pushover Parents: Robert and Evelina both fall into this territory when it comes to disciplining Adam, but Evelina at least tries, whereas Robert doesn't bother. During the parents' meeting, Evelina admits to Jo that's she's probably just as attached to Adam as he is to her.
  • The Unfavorite: Demetrius and Meya are generally well-behaved, but are both neglected in favor of Adam.
