Recap / Strong Bad Email E 31 Sugarbob

Go To

Airdate: Monday, June 10, 2002

Sender: DANIEL

Strong Bad: (indecisively) Umm... I don't know... I'm gonna check my email.

"YOUR JEALOUS FAN, DANIEL" is upset that his girlfriend is obsessed with Strong Bad to the point that she won't talk to him anymore, and wants Strong Bad to convince her that "I AM COOL AND YOU ARE TAKEN". After mocking Daniel for typing in all-caps, he composes an e-mail informing Dan's girlfriend that Daniel is cool and Strong Bad is taken "by a whole buncha girls that are way hotter than you, baby. So sorry sweetie, tootsie-pie, sugarbob, funky bunch..." He even goes so far as to type messages from the "ladies" that are gushing over him.

Strong Bad: So as you can see, they're all really nice, and hot and very web savvy. So you don't have a chance with me, sugarbob. You might as well just stick with Daniel over here. I can't see you doing any better.

Strong Bad then cuts back to Daniel to let him know things have been taken care of.

Strong Bad: Though I'd probably buy her some stuff and start working out just in case. I am quite a catch...

Tropes:

  • Girlfriend in Canada: Strong Bad tries to deflect the attention of Daniel's girlfriend by claiming to be involved with "a whole buncha girls that are way hotter than you."
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: Strong Bad feels the need to answer his own rhetorical question.
Strong Bad: Do you know how many Internet etiquette laws you're breaking by typing in all caps like that? Well... you're breaking one: Don't type in all caps.
  • Self-Deprecation: The DVD commentary for this email consists of Missy Palmer (as Marzipan) singing a song about how mediocre the email is.
Sugarbob, sugarbob, sugarbob, sugarbob, you're not very good
You're kind of boring, kind of boring, and there are no-o pictures
[...]I have nothing left to say except there's nothing
Nothing to say, nothing to say, does anybody like this email?
  • Shout-Out: Strong Bad addressing Daniel's girlfriend as "sugar bob, funky bunch" is a nod to the Four Tops song "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)".
  • Title Drop: "Sugarbob" is one of the many cheesy pet names Strong Bad makes up for Daniel's girlfriend.

Strong Bad: Okay, everybody. Bye. (gets up and leaves)
(The Paper comes down)
