Recap / Stories Of Sodor S 5 E 4 Rescued

Go To

As a result of an accident and a mix-up, two engines need to be rescued.

Tropes:

  • Bittersweet Ending: Barry undergoes an experimental repair procedure that successfully revives him, as does Henry, but the latter's accident occurred because of sabotage, and the culprit is not only the one who killed Geoffrey, but still isn't done.
  • End of an Era: Discussed in the opening of the episode, with Henry and Neil talking about how steam engines ruled the railways until diesels came along.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While Hall initially wishes to use his experimental procedure on Barry, he's tactful enough to ask both him and Sir Topham first. His uncle may have taught him to sieze any opportunity, but his father also taught him to respect the wishes of others.
  • Failed a Spot Check: How Barry ended up in the Sodor scrapyards. He'd gotten mixed up with a faceless variant of his class that had been decommissioned and nobody involved double-checked the paperwork. Needless to say, Sir Topham doesn't take such incompetence lightly.
  • Foreshadowing: At the start of the episode, Henry is shocked to see a faceless engine of his own class in the scrapyards, which ends up mirroring how Barry ended up in the scrapyard himself.
  • It's Personal: Sir Topham Hatt is furious by the aformentioned mix-up and swears to go down hard on the idiots that caused it.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Needless to say, Sir Topham decimates the careers of the men involved with the mix-up.
  • The Reveal: Robert Hall's "project" is revealed to be the use of recycled parts to repair engines instead of spending money on new ones.
  • Riddle for the Ages: We still don't know a great deal about Robert Hall's past other than his father working as a guard. Edward elaborates on a Gregory Hall, but nothing more is found out...yet.
