Following a documentary about King Godred's treasure, people flock to the island, eager to find it. Thus leads to more than a few accidents.
This episode contains the following tropes:
- Bilingual Bonus: Whiff can speak fluent Afrikaans, with some pronunciation errors on Victor's part.
- The Bus Came Back: Duke, Stuart, Falcon, Rosie, and Benson all have their first speaking roles for this season.
- The Cameo: Alfred appears very briefly in a flashback near the end of the episode.
- Character Development: Thanks to the revelation made back in Secrets, as well as his counselling sessions with Mickey, Sheffield is now a much friendlier engine. The episode even opens up with him having a good-natured chat with Diesel and Reginald.
- Hidden Depths: This episode reveals that not only did Whiff serve in South Africa during the Second Boer War, but he also met Gandhi & Churchill and is fluent in Afrikaans.
- Ink-Suit Actor: Stan, one of the robbers, almost looks like Victor Tanzig.
- Karma Houdini Warranty: Apparently, some of the fascists in the British Union had escaped justice following the Knapford Harbor business. Needless to say, the crate Kenny and Stan dig up for Barry McKinley contains enough evidence for karma to catch up to them.
- Obnoxious In-Laws: It's subtle, but when confronting Kenny & Stan, Old Bailey mentions how he would be more forgiving if they shot his son-in-law (who turns out to be Sodor's representative in parliament) instead of Dennis' dog.
- Mythology Gag: Geoffrey exclaims "Stupid bird!" after being frightened by a passing owl.
- Running Gag: Someone [Diesel and Falcon] says, "Better dead than red," only for a red engine [James and Skarloey] to pass by and snap "I heard that!", prompting the former two to ask "How?"
- This leads to Geoffrey almost saying it, only to stop when he realizes that he's painted red.
- Shout-Out: The Northern prats Barry McKinley hires are called Kenny and Stan.
