    Sonic the Hedgehog # 9

Psuedo-Sonic!

Robotnik unveils his latest creation: Pseudo-Sonic, a robotic duplicate of Sonic that's just as fast and looks somewhat like the original. While the real Sonic is conveniently down due to a bad case of poisonous flower allergy and away from his friends, Pseudo-Sonic infiltrates the Knothole hideout due to Antoine thinking he was the real deal. After this, Pseudo-Sonic is exposed quickly before the Freedom Fighters as an impostor and almost reveals the location of their base to Robotnik... before Tails manages to destroy the fake Sonic using static electricity and a rug. With the help of Betty Butterfly, the Freedom Fighters locate the real Sonic and save him before Robotnik can take him down.

What's the Point?

After meeting a little Mobian Needle Bird who fell from a tree, Sonic calls him 'Thorny' and tries to bring it to the Knothole hideout as a present for Sally's birthday... but she immediately kicks the little critter out fearing it might be a trap designed by Robotnik (and, later, for eating her birthday cake). While she was looking for more berries for a new cake, Sally is caught by a robot disguised as a tree and, with Sonic and Thorny's help (and tons of condensed tree puns along the way), she manages to escape and give Robotnik a painful gift.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 10

Revenge of the Nerbs!

Sonic and his friends manage to escape one of Robotnik's traps due to the accidental help of the Nerbs, a tribe of bespectacled underground dwellers who are rather anti-social. Despite their unfriendliness, Sonic and the rest of the Freedom Fighters end up saving them from the clutches of Robotnik, who had been causing them trouble for a long time. By getting into the Mobian sewer system, Sonic manages to release a ton of water that he helps turn into a massive geyser that blows Robotropolis high into the air and the leader of the Nerbs names the Freedom Fighters honorary Nerbs, much to their chagrin.

'Twan with the Wind

The Freedom Fighters are unimpressed by Antoine's outdated hot air balloon transport and he himself feels it is unfit for the threat of Robotnik. Despite this, he decides to prove it is good enough and gets his chance when Robotnik comes back with another ambush.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 11

The Good, the Bad, and the Hedgehog!

After getting a call from Sally about Robotnik polluting a lake at the other side of Mobius, Sonic decides to take a shortcut by using the Cosmic Interstate. However, he takes a wrong turn and ends up in a Mirror Universe where the Freedom Fighters are the bad guys and their version of Dr. Robotnik is a heroic vet who leads the good animals against them. Sonic tries to leave, but Anti-Sonic (the future Scourge!) chases him and prevents him from leaving. However, Sonic manages to trick him into getting ambushed by the good Robotnik's animals and returns home safely and in time to stop their evil Robotnik's plans.

Beat the Clock!

Tired of being outmatched by the other badniks resisting more time against Sonic than him, Coconuts hatches a plan to capture the Freedom Fighters and sets up a time bomb to kill them. Fortunately, Sonic, with the reader's help, is able to navigate the maze and rescue his friends just in time. The bomb explodes and it ends up blowing Coconuts into pieces.

Food for Thought (or You Are What You Eat)

After eating one too many chili dogs, Sonic has a nightmare in which he and the other Freedom Fighters become food and Robotnik is a giant chef.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 12

A Timely Arrival!

Thanks to Robotnik's new time machine, Sonic is transported back in time to Mobius' prehistoric times, where he meets Sonugh the Boghog and other caveman counterparts of the Freedom Fighters. Fearing they'll cower under their version of Robotnik and stay underground forever, Sonic teaches them agriculture (particularly how to plant hedges) so they can live above ground and hide in the forest and hedges instead of below ground all the time. Soon enough, he is transported back into his own time thanks to the Freedom Fighters storming a celebration Robotnik made and using the time machine to retrieve the blue blur. His ancestor's not too happy about being forced to plant many hedges, though.

The Bold-Headed Eagle

After falling from a cliff, Sonic lands into the nest of Cyril Eagle, who escaped the robotization of his flock by running away. Ashamed from this, Cyril now feels he cannot fly again, but Sonic inspires him to not give up. Thanks to this, he and the other members of his flock who also escaped meet again and, with his confidence restores, Cyril flies again, saves Sonic from a nasty fall and returns him home.

The Lynx is a Jinx!

Sonic meets Larry, a lynx who apparently is a massive jinx. When his friends are captured by Robotnik, Sonic decides to use Larry's bad luck against the evil genius' creations.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 13

This Island Hedgehog

Adaptation of the plot of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Sonic and Tails go on their plane to a mysterious floating island to investigate it, but they're shot down by a shadowy islander who traps them. He's revealed to be Knuckles the Echidna, who accuses them of trying to steal his Chaos Emerald because Robotnik told him they were going to. Knuckles allows them to escape the island, but intercepts them by taking a shortcut to the chamber where the Emerald should be. It is then when he finds out Robotnik is the one who stole it and, furious, he teams up with Sonic. Together, they recover the emerald and escape from Robotnik. Knuckles also helped collect the pieces of their plane, which allows Sonic to put it back together so he and Tails can fly back home.

Space in Yo' Face!

Sonic and the Freedom Fighters hijack Robostorm, a new weapon designed by (and shaped after) Robotnik, but in their escape they end up stranded in space with little to no energy. After landing in a moon made out of muck, Sonic gets an idea from Bunnie and weaponizes Robotnik's narcissism to find a way to go back home.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 14

Tails' Taste of Power!

After eating a fruit from the Tree of Wisdom Rotor was cultivating, Tails becomes super-smart and, drunk with power, thinks he can now become the new leader of the Freedom Fighters and replace Sonic. Despite the warnings of his peers, he flies to Robotropolis to take down Robotnik for good... only for the effects of the fruit to run out in the worst possible moment. Luckily, Sonic is able to use his own smarts to trick Robotnik into releasing Tails.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

A girl power story in which, after being captured, Sally and Bunnie escape Robotnik's latest trap.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 15

Rockin' the Bot!

As a reward for saving him, a magical frog gives Sonic three magical stones that can grant him temporary super-powers (one can give super-strength, other elasticity and the third one super-leaping), but each stone only works once and Sonic forgets which one is which. He tries to use them to defeat Robotnik's new robot and help the Freedom Fighters, but he keeps confusing the stones and has to use the final one and his smarts to save the day.

What's the Big Idea?

A showcase of some of Rotor's previous (and often catastrophic) inventions.

Animal Magnetism!

In order to neutralize Bunnie and use her as a lure to capture the rest of the Freedom Fighters, Robotnik creates a Magnobot that can attract everything metallic. However, Sonic tricks the evil mastermind into pointing the robot towards Robotropolis.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 16

Sonic Under Glass!

It seems like Sonic and the Freedom Fighters have finally defeated Robotnik and freed Mobius! With peace restored, Sonic and Sally are about to get married... but it is soon revealed that they're all actually under the effects of Robotnik's new virtual reality chamber. The chamber is meant to feed them their greatest desires while their energy is used to power destructive machines that are on their way to erase the Knothole Forest from the map. However, Sonic and Antoine's conflicting desires end up causing the dream to turn into chaos. Fortunately, the user-friendly interface of the chamber simulates Uncle Chuck and Muttski, who come in to help Sonic understand what's going on. After struggling with doing what's right, and determined to release his friends from the chamber's grasp, Sonic takes over the machines and threatens Robotnik to destroy Robotropolis if he doesn't release them. Once freed, Sonic promises to rescue the real Uncle Chuck and Muttski in the future.

The Man From H.E.D.G.E.H.O.G.

A not-subtle-at-all parody of James Bond in which Sonic, with the help of a secret intelligence agency, manages to twart Robotnik's new schemes ahead of time.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 17

Gorilla Warfare or "The Apes of Wrath"

Robotnik leads Snively and other robots on a hunting expedition to recapture his first creation: King Gong, a giant, robotic ape. After convincing him to go after Sonic and the Freedom Fighters and crashing their picnic, Gong falls in love with princess Sally and takes her to the highest point of Robotropolis. It will then be up to Sonic and his friends to rescue Sally and take the robot monkey down (literally).

First Star I See Tonight!

While stargazing, Sally reminisces about her father, King Acorn, the events that led to Robotnik's uprising and the birth of the Freedom Fighters. She then witnesses a falling star crashing nearby and goes on to investigate, finding in the crash site a strange, metallic orb.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 18

Wedding Bell Blues!

The newspaper in Robotropolis and the latest info leak from Robotnik's badniks all indicate that Sonic and Sally are preparating their wedding and thus, the evil genius decides to crash their party. Soon the ceremony becomes a battlefield, but Sonic quickly saves his allies and helps them gain the upper hand. After they defeat Robotnik, they reveal to him the whole thing was nothing more than a theatrical play.

In the Still of the Night

Continuation of "'First Star I See Tonight!'": While her friends investigate the orb, Sally has to go and meet her friend and mentor Julayla, in her final moments. This storyline concludes in the single-issue special Sonic In Your Face! and marks the introduction of NICOLE, from Sonic SatAM.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 19

Night of 1000 Sonics!

In the first single-story issue, the Freedom Fighters meet a cyborg version of Sonic who came from the Cosmic Interstate. He tells them he needs their help to defeat their version of Robotnik, who robotized himself in order to defeat the cyborg versions of the Freedom Fighters, becoming Robo-Robotnik. As the evil machine is heading towards their dimension to take over Mobius, Sonic gathers the different versions of himself from different dimensions and even makes a truce with Robotnik so they can defeat Robo-Robotnik before he unleashes a giant robot to destroy them all. Together, and despite their bickering, the multiple Sonics are able to stand up against the giant robot, against Robo-Robotnik and even against the maniac's new ally: the evil Sonic from issue 11.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 20

That's the Spirit!

During an infiltration mission with Sally, Sonic gets too overconfident and falls for Robotnik's latest trap: a failed anti-matter machine he used to lure them in. After setting off a bomb Rotor made, Sonic causes a huge explosion and the surviving Sally thinks the blue hero has died. She returns to Knothole with the bad news, but Tails is confident his hero is still alive. Sonic emerges from the rubble seemingly unscathed, but cannot touch any surrounding matter nor be heard nor seen by his friends after returning home. Thinking he's really died and become a ghost, Sonic goes away bitterly... until he kicks a rock and feels pain. Soon he realizes the anti-matter machine is the one who caused his new state and that the effects are going away soon. As he runs back to Knothole, he finds out the Freedom Fighters have gone to Robotropolis to avenge his death. Using his temporary ghostly abilities, Sonic decides to go resuce them from Robotnik and scares the living daylights out of the villain.

Deadliest of the Species

Prelude to the Princess Sally mini-series. Sally tries to infiltrate Robotropolis to steal important info and sabotage some computers. In her way, she meets Geoffrey St. John and learns he's part of a group called the Rebel Underground. They leave on good terms and seems like Geoffrey might be interested in her.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 21

3 Phases of EVE

Robotnik reveals to Snively his brand-new super-weapon to defeat Sonic: a highlly intelligent AI called EVE (Exceptionally Versatile Evolvanoid), whose body can morph and evolve after getting destroyed and whose body employs some of Sonic's quills as a source for her adaptability. Sonic and Tails manage to evade EVE's first assault and destroy it, but it keeps coming back with new shapes. The heroes go to Robotnik's base to confront the evil genius, but EVE follows behind and keeps becoming larger, eventually reaching its peak. EVE then turns against Robotnik claiming HE is the new limitation to break and (apparently) kills him, but just as he's about to do the same to Sonic, the hedgehog convinces EVE that the biggest limitation to beat is its own programming. Therefore, EVE heads into space to be free and Sonic and Tails leave a mourning Snively, all of them thinking Robotnik's really gone.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 22

The Return

Robotnik reappears in the future and is brought back to life thanks to (a possibly different version of) Robo-Robotnik, who sends the evil genius back to his proper time. As all of this happens, Snively unadvertedly activates a secret contingency program Robotnik had in store if he was to ever be defeated by Sonic. The result is an army of SWATbots almost destroying the entire planet. However, Robotnik stops them in time and makes his omnious return known to his enemies.

Tails' Knighttime Story!

Sally tries to convince Tails being a hero isn't as fun as it looks like by telling him a bedtime story featuring medieval versions of Sonic, the Freedom Fighters and Robotnik in which the page Mortail (Tails) tries to impersonate his hero, Sir Runalot (Sonic), but fails misserably.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 23

Ivo Robotnik, Freedom Fighter!

During a skirmish between the Freedom Fighters and Robotnik, a giant alien known as Car-Heem captures all of them and declares his intentions of keeping them as his pets forever inside a giant terrarium (an analog for Rotor's ants). In order to prevent Robotnik from being thrown into outer space, Sonic tells Car-Heem that he's a member of his group and now, together, they try to find a way out of the ship. However, after managing to escape their imprisonment, Robotnik attempts to kill Car-Heem by throwing him off the ship, which the Freedom Fighters prevent. Humbled by their kindness, Car-Heem returns them all home and promises to never collect living creatures again.

The Vol-Ant'-Teer!

After Tails misplaces a Power Ring Sonic entrusted him, Antoine promises to help him retrieve it, even when it means he'll have to venture into Robotropolis alone at night. Fortunately, Bunnie follows him and secretly helps him along the way.

    Sonic the Hedgehog # 24

When Hedgehogs Collide!

While the Freedom Fighters are conviniently away thanks to a device made by Rotor to try and reach the Zone of Silence and rescue King Acorn, the evil versions of Sonic and the Freedom Fighters from Anti-Mobius cross into their dimensions through the Cosmic Interstate and attack the citizens of the Knothole Forest. With their reputations tarnished, Sonic and his friends must face their evil counterparts and return them to their dimension. In the end, however, evil Sonic reveals he got what he wanted: a fight to break the monotony.
