Recap / Sofia The First S 2 E 05 The Silent Knight

Go To

Knights are participating in the Shield of Valor ceremony, and Aunt Tilly is being awarded said shield for taming a dragon. The Silent Knight, Sir Bartleby, takes a liking to Aunt Tilly, but he's too shy to talk to her because of his high-pitched voice. Sofia does her best to help him get close to her aunt, but nothing seems to work. Meanwhile, James is interested in being a knight, but first, he needs to learn to be a squire—which seems less than pleasing to him.

Tropes

  • An Aesop: Don't be afraid to Be Yourself.
  • Kids Play Matchmaker: Sofia helps set Sir Bartleby up with her Aunt Tilly after seeing that he has a crush on her. She helps him try to impress her without using his high-pitched voice, which he's embarrassed about, but after messing up his poem, song, and dance for Tilly, he almost gives up. Sofia then encourages him to be himself and tell Tilly the truth about his voice and confess his feelings to her, and true enough, she likes him back because she likes his voice.
  • Shield Surf: Sofia and Sir Bartleby ride on shields down the hill to catch the latter's love poem to Aunt Tilly, but they arrive too late because it lands on King Roland's hand, and he uses it as a handkerchief before throwing it in the trash. At the end of the episode, Bartleby shield surfs with Aunt Tilly when they start dating.
  • That Syncing Feeling: Sofia requests Sir Maxwell to lend his deep voice to Sir Bartleby, who's embarrassed about his high-pitched voice, by hiding behind a bush to sing the latter's love song to Aunt Tilly while Bartleby lip-syncs to him. It almost goes well until Bartleby falls backwards into the bush and exposes Maxwell in front of Tilly.
  • Trickster Mentor: Aunt Tilly, herself a trickster mentor to Sofia in "Great Aunt-Venture", points out to James that Sir Finnegan's being tough on him in his squire training because he's secretly toughening him up to become a knight.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Sir Bartleby has a rather squeaky and high-pitched voice for his appearance, which is why he remains silent most of the time, giving him the name "the Silent Knight".
