Go To

J.D. inadvertently upstages Dr. Cox when he diagnoses a patient with a rare disease. Turk tells Carla that people don't always appreciate her advice. Meanwhile, a patient of Elliot's sues her for malpractice.

  • An Aesop: This week, it's Moral Luck for JD, the real world for Eliot, and loosening up for Carla.
  • As Himself: David Copperfield shows up in a flashback at a bar sitting next to JD.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Laverne is genuinely warm with Cox when he asks her to have him paged if anything happens with Jordan.
    • Jordan and Cox alone in her hotel room are simply sweet, with him holding her hand and comforting her.
  • Jerkass Realization: Carla realizes Jordan was right about her being judgmental.
  • Moral Luck: Cox explains that this plays a huge role in medicine. JD did everything right, with Cox looking over his shoulder every step of the way... sometimes things just go wrong. It was good luck that had JD see the program about necrotizing fasciitis. It was bad luck that killed his TTP patient.
  • Straw Nihilist: Eliot's cancer patient is suing her for not dying, because he had to face his mortality and now his job and relationships seem pointless.
