The Tsukino family heads to a hot spring resort for a family vacation, where they learn about a legendary lake monster. Endymion awakens the lake monster, thinking it could be a Dark Kingdom youma.
Tropes:
- Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Kenji is seething mad when it seems like Usagi has a boyfriend who bought her a locket, only to calm down when Ikuko suggests the boy was Umino.
- Dub-Induced Plot Hole: A notable example that was the former Trope Namer. On the Japanese episode, Prince Endymion doesn’t recognise the names “Mamoru” and “Usagi”. This scene was translated directly for the DiC dub, but since both the Prince and his reincarnation were named “Darien”, it came off as nonsensical.
- No-Sell: the Youkai shrugs off everything short of Moon Healing Escalation that the Sailors throw at it.
- Outside-Context Problem: This episode’s monster is a Youkai imprisoned within the lake, and is thus unable to be controlled by the Dark Kingdom. But Sailor Moon’s healing powers still affect it.
- Sealed Evil in a Can: The monster was locked away hundreds of years ago.
- Was Once a Man: The Youkai transformed from a regular Woman Scorned.
