When a dispute over an eviction notice results in a sheriff's deputy being seriously injured and taken hostage, Hicks has to put himself in the firing line to stop more people from getting hurt. Chris makes a serious decision about her relationship.
Tropes
- Hostage Situation: The driving force of the plot.
- Mass "Oh, Crap!": S.W.A.T's reaction to realising there's a baby in the house they're about to storm.
- Morton's Fork: The family resisting eviction refuse to release the wounded deputy, given he's their only leverage, but he's badly hurt, and as Hicks points out, if the deputy dies, S.W.A.T. will storm the building and the entire family will be facing murder charges. Hicks offers himself as a hostage in exchange for the deputy being allowed medical treatment.
- Pet the Dog: Deacon and his family let Chris crash on their sofa after she leaves Ty and Kira. Annie also gives Chris a bit of comfort over the heartbreak.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: The father of the family resisting eviction is more level-headed and willing to negotiate than his sons.
- Sanity Slippage: Hicks reveals his wife died from early onset Alzheimers, stating that by the end, she couldn't even recognise him.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Having concluded Ty and Kira will always prioritise their feels over her's, Chris walks out on them.
