Recap / SM G4s Mario Bloopers Mario Screws In A Lightbulb

Go To

Mario attempts the very difficult task of screwing in a lightbulb.

Mario and SMG4 have to replace a lightbulb in Peach's Castle that the former broke during a gaming session between the two. Naturally, Hilarity Ensues as yet another supposedly simple task escalates into total nonsense.

Tropes:

  • Breather Episode: After all the drama of the Lawsuit Arc, this episode goes back to basics, playing out like a classic SMG4 episode in tone and storyline.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Luigi arrives with the Poltergust just in time to save Mario and SMG4 from a pack of Boos.
  • The Bus Came Back: Of course, while Toad didn't actually leave the series, this is his first appearance in years where he's used as anything more than a prop for a joke or an object. He even lampshades this, at least until he is then used as an object again by Mario.
  • Butt-Monkey: Toad. Even when he does attempt revenge on Mario and SMG4 for the abuse he suffered, he still ends up the big loser in the end.
  • Chekhov's Gag: While sucking in a group of ghosts, Mario also sucks up Toad in the process. Come the climax when the heroes need another lightbulb, Toad is ejected from the Poltergust, allowing Mario to use him as a lightbulb.
  • Eye Scream: A Sniper receives this courtesy of a desk lamp that he’s looking directly into when the light turns back on.
  • Foreshadowing: During the start, Mario tries to use Toad as a replacement lightbulb before SMG4 shuts it down. Later on during the climax, Mario does end up using Toad as a replacement lightbulb for the basements socket.
  • From Bad to Worse: In an attempt to fix the broken lightbulb, Mario and SMG4 manage to cause a power outage due to trying to use the wrong bulb. The darkness allows several Boos to appear, who proceed to harass the two.
  • Groin Attack: Toad pulls one on Mario for forcibly taking his place in holding the ladder. He pays for it with a ladder to the face.
  • Halloween Special: Arguably, as it was released near the end of October and has King Boo as the main antagonist.
  • Make My Monster Grow: After Mario deflates King Boo, Depresso feeds him a pingas-enhancing pill, making King Boo twice as big as before.
  • Not Me This Time: SMG4 is close to screwing in a Lightbulb while Mario is holding the ladder, only to get jostled around several times. SMG4 complains that Mario should keep the ladder still. We later see that Mario is keeping the ladder still, it's just that Toad was kicking him.
