Gus overhears his parents talking one night and mistakenly assumes that his family is moving again. Not wanting to leave his friends, Gus moves into Old Rusty.

  • Appeal to Force:
    Hustler Kid: What's the password?
    Spinelli: How bout [raises fist] "Fat Lip".
    Hustler Kid: Works for me. Right this way.
  • Bat Scare: Gus sees a swarm of bats fly out from the school as he's running through the playground terrified.
  • Bubble Pipe: Gus blows on this during the housewarming party.
  • Can-Crushing Cranium: Mikey and Gus do this with juice boxes, though Gus fails miserably to even make a dent in his.
  • Didn't Think This Through: To give Gus' new home some lighting, TJ uses the school power supply. However, it didn't occur to him that Hank always turns off the power supply when it's late at night.
  • It's Probably Nothing: When the lights go out at Old Rusty, Gus tries this reasoning when he hears scary noises.
  • Orphaned Punchline: Gretchen tells this joke:
    Gretchen: And so I said, "That's no test tube. That's my lunch!" (the kids laugh with her)
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: What kickstarts the plot was Gus listening in on his parents talking and thinking they were talking about moving, when really they were talking about giving him a new room.
  • The Runaway: Gus runs away from home, with his parents not knowing that he decided to go to the jungle gym and camp out there. Fortunately TJ tells them.
    Mrs. Detweiler: (on the phone) Please don't cry, Mrs. Griswald.
    [TJ listens in with concern]
  • Runaway Hideaway: Gus moves into Old Rusty.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Gus when he gets too scared from being out on his own.
  • Tears of Fear: Gus starts crying when he gets scared of being outside alone, fearing he'll freeze to death before his parents ever find him.
