Recap / Prehistoric Park Returned From Extinction Episode 37 The City Of Cactus

Go To

The park faces a challenge like no other when Tristan ends up stranded in a time unknown to man. And while the team races to rescue him from danger, Tristan uncovers truths that could flip everything they know upside down.

  • Homage: Word of God is that the first time we see a future predator in full is meant as one to the introduction of the Hunter Beta in the Resident Evil 3 (Remake).
  • Meanwhile, in the Futureā€¦: The story is roughly divided between Tristan, who is trapped in the future, and the staff at the park trying to bring him home.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: The predators that show up in the future segments are never shown in full, and even when the rest of the animal is visible, their faces are never described. Word of God is that they are future predators.
  • Out-of-Genre Experience: The later parts of this chapter switch from the lighthearted adventures of the team rescuing prehistoric beasts into something out of a horror story.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The portal device opening into the future is one, as not only does it leave Tristan and Terence trapped in a time where they have no knowledge of the native fauna, but their teammates back at the park have only been searching for location in the past to save Tristan - they never even consider that he might have gone into the future.
  • Wham Episode:
    • For the first time in the series, the time portal sends a person into the future.
    • As is revealed at the end of the episode, this story is actually set in the same universe as Primeval Paradox, with the leader of the anomaly researchers, Wyatt, being Tristan and his sibling's father.
  • Wham Shot: At the very end of the chapter, after a bizarre conversation between Tristan and his father that ends with the latter abruptly shout a Rapid-Fire "No!", we get to see things from his perspective, revealing that he is Wyatt from Primeval Paradox.
