Original Title: Battle Park! VS Kamex - Lizardon - Fushigibana!

Original Airdate: May 16, 2002

US Airdate: May 17, 2003

Seeing that Ash just can't get enough battling, a trainer who loses to him suggests as she leaves that he give a local Pokémon battle park a try. She explains that this facility is set up like an amusement park, but with all the attractions built around Pokémon battling. Ash and friends set off enthusiastically toward the park, but get there after Jessie, James, and Meowth, who find the park to be closed for repairs. Always prepared to make the worst of a bad situation, Team Rocket entrench themselves in the park and wait for Ash, plotting to use the park's Pokémon to battle and capture Ash's Pikachu. Ash will have to battle hard: his opponents include Blastoise, Venusaur, and Charizard.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Achievement In Ignorance: Jessie orders Charizard to use yet another one of Arbok's usual moves, Dig. Though James and Meowth groan at her command, Charizard shows that it absolutely can use Dig.
  • All for Nothing: Even if Team Rocket managed to steal the Battle Park pokemon, they're only obedient so long as they're in the park.
  • Blood Knight: Ash is in a battle-hungry mood this episode, which leads into him going to the Battle Park.
  • Boss Rush: Ash goes through one of these, facing Venusaur, Charizard and finally Blastoise.
  • Call-Back: Misty points out that the three pokemon Ash faces are the evolved forms of pokemon he's owned.
  • Damn You, Muscle Memory!: Jessie orders a Poison Sting... while using a Charizard. It actually works when she orders it to use Dig, since Charizards are capable of learning said move.
  • Epic Fail: The Charizard Jessie uses actually attempts to use Poison Sting! Predictably nothing happens, but points for trying.
  • Know When to Fold Them: The trainer Ash fights at the start of the episode quickly stops the battle when it looks like Smoochum will lose to Pikachu.
  • Scissors Cuts Rock: Both Venusaur and Charizard rip through attacks that would normally be super effective against them using resisted attacks. In Venusaur's case its Solar Beam against Cyndaquil's Flamethrower. In Charizard's case, it's Flamethrower against Water Gun.
