With the Guzzlord invasion dealt with, the Alola League can begin its long awaited exhibition match between the new champion Ash and the Masked Royal, or rather Professor Kukui, as the latter was unexpectedly unmasked. With Poipole returning as a Naganadel, Ash now has a full team of six to challenge one of Alola's greatest trainers.
- Easily Forgiven: Ash and everyone aren't mad at Professor Kukui for keeping his secret of being the Masked Royal for so long.
- Face Fault: Pikachu does one when Ash tells him that he's not starting the full battle.
- Foreshadowing:
- Tapu Koko takes a very keen interest in the battle...
- Torracat's bell heating up gets a lot of focus, with Turtonator and Marowak a bit stunned by it.
- High-Pressure Emotion: When Professor Burnet sees that her husband (Kukui) is also her crush (Masked Royal), she overheats and faints.
- Internal Reveal: Everyone else learns Kukui's secret.
- Meaningful Background Event: Tapu Koko flies by when the full battle is confirmed.
- Mythology Gag: The final battle of the original Sun and Moon games was also against Kukui.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Burnet saying she was a failure as a Masked Royal fan for not realizing it was her own husband comes off as this. She does forgive him for keeping it from her though.
