- Brains Versus Brawn: What Kiawe vs Sophocles largely comes down to, with Sophocles' Vikavolt trying to strategically immobilise Kiawe's Charizard to make up for the bulk difference. Lana tries to utilise the same approach against Guzma, unfortunately, Guzma happens to be pretty sneaky as well a powerhouse.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Golisopod immediately shuts down Primarina's offense and dominates the entire match.
- Irony: The one time First Impression gets used, Plumaria states no one never dodged the attack. Come Golisopod's next appearance it drops it for Throat Chop instead.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Golisopod inflicts this to Primarina with a series of Poison Jabs.
- Scissors Cuts Rock: Golisopod's Liquidation cuts Primarina's Oceanic Operetta Z-Move in half and knocks out Primarina.
- Villainy-Free Villain: Guzma's viciousness and cruel attitude towards Lana make him unpopular, but as even Lana herself notes, he was playing completely by the rules.
- The Worf Effect:
- Unfortunately for Lana, Guzma is not gonna have none of that and takes out her Primarina.
- Though Kiawe vs Sophocles' match is fairly even-handed otherwise, Charizard quickly tears up Vikavolt's Savage Spin Out Z-Move before it can collide.
