Recap / Pokemon EC 42 Applejack Blossoms

Go To

The second semi-final match between Flash and Applejack to see who will face Lightning Blitz in the finals continues. Both trainers give it their all, and resolve that regardless of who wins or loses, the two of them will remain friends.

  • The Bus Came Back: Hopper arrives at the end of the chapter to rejoin the team for Flash's battle against Lightning in the finals.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: A few of the moves Applejack makes during the battle come back to haunt her later on.
    • Applejack had Ludicolo use Rain Dance right away to gain an advantage against Viper. Later though, after Prongs is blinded by Winona using Sand Strike, Prongs slides across the wet battlefield and the water washes the sand out of his eyes, allowing him to see.
    • Applejack has Winona use Dig several times to dodge attacks, leaving holes in the ground. Later during the climax of the battle, when Viper is struggling to land a hit on Bloomberg, Flash has Viper use Flamethrower in one of the holes, resulting in several huge columns of fire shooting out of all the holes around the field.
  • Heroic Rematch: A variation happens between Prongs and Winona. When Flash and Applejack first met and battled, the battle between Prongs and Winona ended in a draw. Now the two face each other again for the first time since then, and this time ends with Prongs winning.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Flash recalls Viper during his battle with Ludicolo, realizing that he is at too big of a disadvantage while Rain Dance is in effect.
  • Passing the Torch: Granny Smith, after seeing how well Applejack trained her Pokémon during her battle with Flash, officially makes her the Leader of the Applewood City Gym, symbolized by her giving Applejack the Official Harvest Badge.
  • So Proud of You: Applejack says this to Winona and Bloomberg when returning them to their Pokeballs after they are beaten.
  • Worf Had the Flu: This is discussed with Riptide. Though Riptide is still available for Flash to use, he already took damage against Flapple and Winona. He might have been able to beat Bloomberg with Ice Punch, but it was more likely he would easily go down with a single Hammer Arm. So, everyone talks like the battle between Viper and Bloomberg is the one to truly decide the winner of the match.
