Flash faces Ember in her premiere battle as the Dragonia City Gym Leader to get his final badge and finally earn the right to enter the Equestria League.
- Awesome by Analysis: Astro watches the way Ember's Galvern flies during the Gym Battle, and copies it himself when he evolves, making him an Instant Expert at flying.
- Didn't See That Coming: Everyone is surprised by Astro's evolution, including Torch, who claims he has never seen a Pokémon evolve during a Gym Battle before.
- Heroic Second Wind: When Astro battles Ember's Champagoon he is quickly overhwlmed by the bigger dragon. But, hearing Flash and the rest of his team cheering him on causes him to evolve into a Galvern, giving him the strength to continue fighting and win.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Astro watches the entire Gym Battle before Flash calls him in for the last battle against Champagoon, and notably pays very close attention to Ember's Galvern as it flies. When Astro evolves into a Galvern himself, he is able to fly no problem despite his new body by copying exactly what Ember's Galvern did, allowing it to keep up with Champagoon.
- I Am Not Left-Handed: Although Ember was given all of the Pokémon Torch left in the Gym when she became the new leader, she chooses to only use the Pokémon she trained herself for her battle with Flash.
- Status Effects: Viper manages to poison Ember's Terragon and Blazegon.
- Single-Stroke Battle: At the end of the battle between Astro and Champagoon, they clash in midair with Dragon Claw and Wyvern Wing respectively, with both ending up back to back with their attacks still active. After a tense moment with both attacks fading away, both Pokémon begin to collapse, seemingly in a Double Knockout. But Astro hears everyone call out to him and manages to catch himself, giving him and Flash the win.
- So Proud of You: Torch tells Ember that even though she lost she put up an amazing fight that was worthy of being a Gym Battle.
- Took a Level in Badass: Astro evolves into a Galvern against Ember's Champagoon, learning Dragon Claw in the process and giving him the boost he needs to win.
- Victorious Roar: Astro lets one out after he defeats Champagoon
