A cover page mini-arc that follows Eneru, the Big Bad in the Skypiea Arc, as he manages to somehow reach the moon and finds out, while wandering around, that he's not the only occupant on there.

Main Summary

The flying ark Maxim reaches the moon. While exploring his 'Fairy Vearth', Eneru comes across a small creature lying in a hole and zaps it. The lightning revives the creature, 1st Lt. Spacey. With Eneru following, Spacey finds a battlefield where his fellow Spaceys lie defeated. Then a new figure appears, a fox-like alien space pirate. The space pirate defeats Spacey, then turns his attention to Eneru and gets defeated himself. A huge explosion in the distance draws Eneru's attention. Eneru is enraged; someone has destroyed his ark! The culprits are more Space Pirates, who are excavating the moon. As Eneru goes confront them, Lt. Spacey recalls his origins.

The Spaceys are robots built by Professor Tsukimi on Machine Island. At a moon watching party, an explosion on the moon shocked the professor so much that he choked on a dumpling and died. After the funeral, the Spaceys used balloons to fly to moon, hoping to avenge the professor. Instead they were defeated by the Space Pirates.

Eneru meanwhile successfully wipes out the Space Pirates. Towing his comrades behind, Lt. Spacey goes to thank him, but gets shocked by the trigger-happy Eneru. Eneru goes off to explore what the Space Pirates were digging up, and finds an abandoned underground city. He then fills it with lightning, but instead of destroying the city, the electricity flows through conduits where Spacey-like robots are being kept and are revived. Eneru finds himself surrounded by an army of Spaceys, (Including the four that were defeated) being thanked for reviving them. Studying wall paintings, Eneru learns that winged people used to rule the city before they left for the blue planet due to lack of resources.

Regardless, Eneru now has a new land to rule over, and an army to rule it with. The Eneru Army stands tall!

Eneru's Great Space Mission has the following tropes

  • Accidental Hero: Eneru revives the Spaceys, defeats the Space Pirates, and reactivates the lost civilization by aimlessly wandering the moon and blasting everything he sees.
  • Advanced Ancient Acropolis: Eneru finds one in a cave.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: In trying to destroy a lost civilization, Eneru winds up accidentally reviving them.
  • Artistic License – Space: Apparently you can reach the moon with a powerful enough flying ship or balloons. Oh and the setting's completely breathable too.
  • Connected All Along: It’s all but stated that the ruins on the moon are from the Ancient Kingdom.
  • Flashback: A small one that explains where some of the Spacey's come from.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Turns out Bilkans (the Skypiean people) come from space. No doubt this will come up again later in the story.
    • The fact that the moon is filled with Lost Technology hints at the revelation in the Egghead Island arc regarding the Ancient Kingdom that stood before the World Government.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: The Space Pirates are drawn in a cartoonier than usual art style and most are anthromorphic animals with spherical "hands" (though that could just be their space suits' gloves).
  • Shout-Out: The Space Pirates' jolly roger is what appears to be a Xenomorph's skull.
  • Space Pirates: Enel defeats a few of them that are trying to excavate the moon civilization's ruins.
