Recap / Ninjago: Dragons Rising S1E13 "Wyldly Inappropriate"

Go To

Kai and Wyldfyre attempt to find their Dragon Core. Zane enters a lookalike contest in order to afford parts.

Tropes:

  • The Bus Came Back: Chancellor Gulch is the judge of the Zane-alike competition. He's the first returning non-Ninja from the original series.
  • Hope Spot: When Wyldfyre goes to shake the leader Lava-tide's hand, she prepares to give a fire handshake much to Kai's fear... Only for her to hold back and perform a normal handshake, much to his relief. Only for the Lava-tide leader to chuck the Dragon Core back into the pit, believing Wyldfire could never change her ways.
  • Hypocrite: The Lava-tide call out Wyldfire for her cruel pranks... only to pull an even more cruel one on her after she tried to make amends.
  • Lifesaving Misfortune: While Zane ends up losing the Zane-alike contest, it's revealed afterwards that the dead last consecutive prize was a gift card for a component in Kreel's Junkyard, allowing him and Frohicky to acquire the Wyconium Coil they need.
  • Long List: When Kai suggests that Wyldfyre fix all the crimes she caused to the Lava-tides, a list of said crimes is brought out... Which rolls down the stairs, and continues past the crowd.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Turns out the Lava-tides are genuinely upset with Wyldfyre's pranking in the past, refusing to believe she could ever change and denying her the Dragon Core.
  • Prank Gone Too Far: To the point where Wyldfire borders on Heroic Comedic Sociopath at times, as Kai has to point out her pranks were just flat out bullying.
  • Recognition Failure: NONE of the people at the Zane Festival, including Chancellor Gulch, recognize Zane as the real deal, which proves to be a heavy detriment when this plus several inconveniences on Zane's end cause him to constantly lose out on the Zane-alike contest.
  • Sticky Fingers: Wyldfyre will steal as part of a 'prank', with the first occurrence enraging the Bone Guards and being the reason why she and Kai were in the spike wall trap in the first place.
  • Tempting Fate: Much like the last episode, Kai and Wyldfyre, while stuck listening to Dorama's monologue, ponder if the others are doing better than them. Cue Gilligan Cut to Nya and Sora discovering the Dragon Core they were seeking was missing.
  • Unobtanium: One of the items Zane needed is a Wyconium coil, said material being extremely rare.
