Tropes:

  • Actually a Doombot: The HPSC tricked Rikiya Yotsubashi into coming to them with a contract proposal with Detnerat, when in truth was an attempt to arrest him for his involvement with the MLA and PLF. Unfortunately, not only do they all underestimate his Stress Quirk, it was never even the real Re-Destro; he was a clone made by Twice before his death.
  • Adaptational Expansion: Before the recap, a new scene shows Rikiya Yotsubashi of the PLF and a Detnerat associate were discussing the Safety Commission's proposal to contract with his Detnerat company. He also talked about creating backdoor software to spy on them should the deal go through. Adapting the manga after, this didn't work out for him when the "proposal" turned out to be a sting operation. Though the associate was killed in the crossfire when he unleashed his Stress Quirk in retaliation, Yotsubashi's attack dealt a critical blow on the Commission by killing the Chairwoman.
  • Downer Ending: It's hard to look for the bright side of the aftermath of this war but, at the very least, almost the entire Paranormal Liberation Front and their sympathizers are apprehended, including key players Re-Destro, Geten, Mr. Compress, and Gigantomachia. Unfortunately, that's where the silver lining ends. Jaku City is in ruins following the battle, not to mention the previous cities that Machia trampled through on the way, leaving countless people dead, hurt or homeless. Many Pro Heroes have been killed, including Crust, Majestic, and U.A's Midnight. The surviving Heroes press on and tend to the wounded, both of their allies and citizens, while a few others are considering leaving the profession altogether when the harsh reality of the aftermath hits them. The rest of Japan expresses concern and doubt about Endeavor, and Heroes in general, following Dabi's broadcast. Worst of all, a handful of Nomu and the rest of the PLF and League of Villains are still at large, over 100 members including key players Toga, Dabi, Spinner, and Shigaraki (currently possessed by All For One). As for All For One...
  • From Bad to Worse: All For One makes plans to deal with the shambles of Hero Society, not wanting anyone to have even a moment to breathe. His first step? Use Shigaraki and the remaining Nomus to break his own body out of prison.
  • Killed Offscreen: Midnight was last seen lying on the ground motionless, supposedly defeated by a group of Villains after Compress's intercepting debris injured her. By the time the other Class 1-A students find her, they are distraught that she is pretty much lifeless. Setsuna Tokage/Lizardy of Class 1-B soon somberly reports Majestic's death as well.
  • Please Wake Up: The Class 1-A students closest to the fallen Midnight do this, the reality of her death not yet sunk in.
  • Power Of Hate: Reports tell that the electrocution between the wires of Dr. Garaki's Nomu equipment and the spilt fluid that Shigaraki was lying in wouldn't have been enough to wake him up, and the late X-Less didn't feel the current either. This meant that he was officially dead, if only for a moment, but his sheer hatred for Heroes somehow revived him.
  • Properly Paranoid: Re-Destro had hoped the contract proposal was legit, but expected the Safety Commission to use it as a front to arrest him. Anticipating the latter, it is revealed that this Re-Destro was a Twice clone of him prepared as a precaution.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: By the end of the day, both sides of the battle suffered great losses despite their accomplishments.
    • Shigaraki and Gigantomachia caused insurmountable damage across Japan and, thanks to Dabi, Hero Society as people know it is completely flipped over its head after his broadcast paints an ugly picture on Endeavor and Hawks. However, all but over a hundred members of the PLF are arrested, Twice has died, and Shigaraki is taken over by a consciousness of All For One, leaving him with no room to celebrate.
    • The Heroes have an even more meaningless victory because of the above. Though they apprehended almost the entire PLF, Shigaraki and most of the League have gotten away. Worst is they now have to clean up the mess the Villains caused while finding out who is alive or dead, and a few are starting to wonder if there is a point in continuing their Hero profession anymore.
  • Recap Episode: Narrated by Midoriya, everything that went down since the start of season is explained via "post-mortem report" for half of the episode. Anything left out is explained by Deku himself. Interestingly, he mentions that the official statement said no one in the UA Work Studies program was involved with the fight against Shigaraki, which included him, Bakugo, and Todoroki.
  • They Look Just Like Everyone Else!: Reports of Toga on the loose cause a few Heroes and Police to become pretty worried thanks to her blending in with her Transform Quirk.
  • Underestimating Badassery: It seemed like no one in the Safety Commission HQ anticipated the power of Re-Destro's Quirk. As a result, its Chairwoman is killed while numerous injuries and casulties are further piled up. The Commission itself is left in disarray since, though the Jaku hospital raid proceeded as planned.
  • Wham Shot: The episode starts with a shot of All Might's statue, now wearing a sign that says "I AM NOT HERE", a corruption of his iconic "I AM HERE" catchphrase. Villans have been growing bolder ever since the former Number 1 Hero's retirement but, after the disaster brought upon by Shigaraki and the PLF (mainly the League of Villains who were in charge), people are starting put their faith in Heroes into question.
  • War Is Hell: Appropriate for the episode title, the latter half of the episode shows sheer damage in one of the cities that Gigantomachia plowed through on his way to rendezvous with Shigaraki. One hero Uravity overhears during the rescue operation is so devastated by the aftermath, he considers looking for a new job.

It's my turn, now... My turn forever...
