Recap / My Hero Academia S4E8 "Suneater of the Big Three"

Go To

As the heroes storm the Headquarters of the Shie Hassaikai, encountering resistance along the way, Overhaul's lieutenant Mimic becomes one with the walls and forces the heroes apart from one another. Coming up against three of Overhaul's best underlings, Suneater takes them on to make sure that everyone else is able to complete the mission at full strength.

Tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: As the title suggests, Tamaki gets the bulk of the focus in this episode, detailing the start of his friendship with Mirio and how he was able to become the hero he is now.
  • Character Title: As befitting of the trope above.
  • Involuntary Group Split: After Mimic injects himself with the quirk-enhancing drug, he becomes one with the building itself, and turns it into a living maze to aid his boss and hinder the heroes trying to stop them.
  • Next Tier Power-Up: After Mimic injects the drugs into himself, he powers up to the point where he's able to take control of the entire building to help his boss and hinder the heroes like a living maze.
  • Positive Friend Influence: Flashbacks show that Mirio was continuously this to Tamaki throughout his life; From his day to a new school, to their quirk test in U.A., to being part of the Big Three. It shows that Tamaki has undergone significant Character Development thanks to Mirio.
  • Power of Friendship: Two examples, one from the Heroes, one from the villains:
    • Mirio and Tamaki have been friends since Tamaki's first day in Mirio's school, and their friendship has allowed the both of them to become better as heroes through U.A. and Work Studies.
    • The three goons in the maze show this, always being there for each other when they were "trash" and when they are working under Overhaul in the present.
  • Punch a Wall: Kirishima and Midoriya perform this on a wall stopping the heroes after they enter the underground portion of the base, punching clean through the wall together.
  • Recruited from the Gutter: The three goons stalling the heroes call themselves "trash" as reference to what they were before Overhaul recruited them. This is the reason why they are so loyal to the Shie Hassaikai.
  • Secret Underground Passage: Sir Nighteye leads everyone into one where Eri is being kept, pressing a number of tiles by a flower pot to let them in.
  • Undying Loyalty: The three that Suneater fights are bound this way to each other, and their boss Overhaul, which fuels them to stall the heroes the best they can.
