Izuku caused significant damage in his right hand warranting surgery; school nurse Recovery Girl refuses future treatment if he does it again. All Might admits to his youth being identical to Izuku's. Todoroki admits to Endeavor he was able to use his left side fire because he forgot all about his father. In the last matches of the second round, Iida and Tokoyami push respective opponents Shiozaki and Ashido out of bounds, while Bakugo overpowers Kirishima. When Iida vs Todoroki, Iida is frozen and rendered unable to go on. Bakugo figures out Tokoyami's weakness to intense light as they fight and makes him yield. Meanwhile in Tokyo, Iida's brother Ingenium is crippled in pursuit of the Hero Killer: Stain, and Iida is informed not long after by his mother. Stain is invited by Kurogiri to meet with Shiguraki about joining the Villain's League.

- Kirishima's Hardening allows him to withstand Bakugo's attacks, but it's not enough. Bakugo's barrage of explosives wear him out quickly and KO him.
- Tokoyami doesn't fair much better; natural light plus the light from Bakugo's explosion leave Dark Shadow completely weak, allowing Bakugo a quick advance to the finals.
- Downer Ending: Iida gets this, not only because of his loss against Todoroki, but the call afterwards that his older brother got hurt, or worse, by a Villain.
- Hope Spot: After being handed a win by Hatsume, Iida hoped to get a more legitimate one against Todoroki. He lands a swift kick and almost throws him out of the ring. Unfortunately, Todoroki is able to freeze him after getting in close, allowing him to proceed to the finals.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Recovery Girl warns both Midoriya and All Might that the former is pushed too hard and it keeps leading to his injuries. She soon decides that she will no longer heal him if he keeps being reckless. As such, they will need to find a better way to hone his Quirk.
- Wham Line: While discussing with Midoriya who is wondering if he was the right choice for One for All, All Might reassures him by revealing something even more shocking: he was Quirkless before his own mentor passed OFA to him.
