Recap / Monkie Kid S 3 E 4 The Winning Side

Go To

After a pit stop to train, the heroes get back on the road. Strangely, MK notices they're headed East, not West. Something is very, very wrong.

Tropes:

  • Comical Nap Drool: In Pigsy and Tang’s side of the van, Tang is shown asleep in the passenger seat while drooling. We cut to a scene of MK, Mei, and Sandy, then cut back to show Tang has filled his entire scarf.
  • Deal with the Devil: It's revealed that Lady Bone Demon revived Macaque after his original defeat in Journey to the West in return for freeing her from her tomb with the skeleton key. She was unhappy when Macaque went back on his end of the deal and forces him into a new deal in which he must deliver both Monkey King and MK to her. However, she threatens to erase him from the world's memory if he fails or, worse, betrays her again.
  • Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: MK does understand that Macaque is a bad guy. What he can't process is why he's working for someone much worse like Lady Bone Demon when she's just using him for her own goal.
  • Involuntary Group Split: Macaque uses his powers to duplicate the T.E.A., separating MK, Mei, and Sandy from Monkey King, Pigsy, Tang, and Mo.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: After being tormented by Macaque over losing his powers one final time, MK delivers a thoroughly awesome one of these to him while managing to get some of his power back in the process.
Macaque: Or what? You’re not the Monkie Kid anymore. Your powers are gone. Your staff’s gone. You’re NOTHING!
MK:...No. I am the Monkie Kid.
Macaque: What was that? I couldn’t quite hear you!
    MK:...I said...
MK: I. AM. THE MONKIE KID!
  • Take Me Instead: MK tries to offer himself up to Macaque, in exchange for Mei and Sandy's safety. Though this fails when Macaque points out that with Mk (supposedly) powerless. The boy really doesn't have much bargaining power.
