Recap / Miami Vice S 1 E 11 Give A Little Take A Little

Go To

Gina and Trudy are attempting to infiltrate a particularly noxious pimp's sex trafficking organization. The pimp, Lupo Ramirez, is believed to have killed two of his prostitutes Crockett and Tubbs follow up on a lead provided by Noogie that talks about an amphetamine stash. After intimidating the weak-willed guard, Crockett gets him to snitch on his boss, Sally Alvarado. A high powered lawyer protects Sally and tries to get Crockett to give up his snitch. Crockett, defying a judge's orders, serves jail time until the snitch, Bob Rickert, comes forward and tells the Judge. He also agrees not to testify.

Lupo Ramirez soon fingers Gina as a snitch even if he doesn't figure out he's a cop and invites her to a private party. Gina foregos backup because she believes it will introduce him to his major players but finds him alone when she gets there. She is forced to sleep with him in order to preserve her cover.

Soon, Crockett and Tubbs find out that Alvarado is actually working for Ramirez and has placed out a hit on Gina...

  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode gives Gina a lot more focus than usual.
  • All for Nothing:
    • Crockett serves what's implied to be a week or two in jail to protect his informant, only for said informant to come forward on his own.
    • Gina's infiltration of Ramirez's organization ends up being pointless as he's fingered by Crockett and Tubb's investigation before being killed (by her admittedly).
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's questionable whether Ramirez ever intended to introduce Gina to any of his business partners or just planned to arrange a sexual encounter with her from the beginning.
  • Asshole Victim: Gina guns down Ramirez when he's just holding a knife. No one cares about her doing so.
  • Brown Face: Lupo Ramirez is a Cuban man played by the very Italian American Burt Young (AKA Paulie from Rocky).
  • Did Not Think This Through: Gina is left alone and vulnerable when she refuses backup from Trudy.
  • Dirty Harriet: Gina and Trudy go undercover as prostitutes in Lupo Ramirez's organization.
  • Kick the Dog: Lupo Ramirez plans on having Gina killed anyway but decides to arrange a sexual tryst with her beforehand.
  • He Knows Too Much: Alvarado has this plan for Bob Rickert. The same for Ramirez to Gina.
  • Honey Pot: Averted. Gina had not intended to sleep with Ramirez as part of her cover but ends up doing so anyway. She's disgusted with herself.
  • Moving the Goalposts: Gina sets firm boundaries with her boss about being sexually available but he ignores them and sets up a situation where she's forced to sleep with him.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Gina has this reaction to sex with Ramirez.
  • Questionable Consent: Gina is forced to sleep with Ramirez in order to preserve her cover.
  • Rape as Drama: Gina's unwillingness to sleep with Ramirez is something that is played as traumatizing to her.
  • Suicide by Cop: Ramirez approaching Gina with a knife is either this or being Too Dumb to Live, assuming she didn't want to kill him.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Gina takes her first life as a police officer when she kills Ramirez. Trudy almost kills someone as well.
