Magnum and Higgins have a surprise walk-in when Greg Nettles hires them to find out how he went from a bar in the Midwest to a beach in Oahu two days later with blood on his shirt. But they're not the only ones interested in Greg, who has one more surprise to spring on himself...

- Contrary to what Magnum tells Greg, breaking and entering is defined as entering the property without the owner's consent, with or without actually breaking anything to do so.
- The thieves' plan to gain access to the safety deposit box using Greg wouldn't have worked, as he wasn't in contact with his grandfather and therefore couldn't have signed the signature card.
- Call-Back:
- Higgins goes back to Dr. Linda Ogawa to confront her feelings about Magnum.
- Magnum is disappointed to learn that Higgins' "just texting" relationship with Cole has progressed to picnic lunches.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Greg's grandfather disappeared twenty years earlier. Turns out this is due to a diamond heist he pulled before betraying his cohorts and disappearing with the loot. When the grandfather dies, the thieves drug and kidnap Greg to access the safety deposit box where the diamond is being kept.
- Eat the Evidence: The gang finally realise where the missing diamond is when Greg has an X-ray. Unfortunately, Greg has just been abducted by the thieves, and it doesn't take a genius to work out how they intend to retrieve the goods...
- Everyone Can See It: Rick goes full Snark Knight when Magnum confesses that he may have feelings for Higgins.Rick: Wait, let me write down the exact date and time you figured out what all of us have known for years!
- Foreshadowing: Everyone thinks Greg's stomach pains are due to having been drugged with scopolamine. In fact, it's because he swallowed a diamond.
- Honey Trap: Greg is drugged by Angie in the bar.
- Irony: In the previous episode, Magnum was happy that Higgins was texting Cole because it meant he'd have something to tease her about once it progressed to something more. It does so just when Magnum is about to tell her how he feels, and he's not happy at all.
- I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: Tim Kang and Teressa Liane previously appeared together in season 7 of The Vampire Diaries.
- Love Confession: Averted. Before Greg arrives, Magnum asks Higgins to spend the day with him, only to find her preparing to go on a picnic with Cole. He plays it off later, but it's clear he intended to tell her how he feels.
- Ontological Mystery: Greg went from a bar in the Midwest to a beach in Oahu two days later with blood on his shirt. He's understandably confused and alarmed, and hires Magnum and Higgins to find out what happened.
- Underestimating Badassery: The thieves' plan derailed because Greg shook off the scopolamine early for long enough to realise something was wrong, swallow the diamond and escape. Later, when they kidnap him to cut the diamond out of his stomach, he successfully fights them off until help arrives. Higgins' assessment is that "they overestimated the dose and underestimated you, Greg."
