Lucky Luke takes part in a rodeo in Navajo City, and gets into a scrape with a rival cowboy, Cactus Jim.

Rodeo provides examples of:
- Bar Brawl: Luke and Cactus Jim have a fight at the saloon after the latter is exposed as a cheater.
- Deadly Dodging: During the Bar Brawl, Cactus Jim charges at Luke and Luke plunges behind the bar, making Jim crash into a table.
- Grievous Bottley Harm: Cactus Jim breaks a bottle to try harming Luke during the Bar Brawl.
- Heads or Tails?: Luke and Cactus Jim flip a coin to decide who will get the only free guest room in the saloon. It appears Cactus Kid wins, only for Luke to expose him as a cheater as it turns out his coin has two "heads".
- Top-Heavy Guy: Cactus Jim has normal legs and a big torso.
- Town Contest Episode: Navajo City organizes a rodeo contest, in which Luke and Cactus Jim compete.
- We Will Meet Again: After his defeat against Luke during the Bar Brawl, Cactus Jim promises Luke to return and warns him to prepare his coffin.
